Topic 17: Pets and animals
1. What is your favorite animal?
My favorite animal is the dog because they are loyal and always happy to see you.
2. Have you ever had a pet?
Yes, I had a cat named Whiskers when I was a child. She was very playful.
3. What's the most popular animal in your country?
In my country, the cat is the most popular pet. Many people have them because they are easy to care for.
Vocabulary and Definitions
1. Dog - A domesticated carnivorous mammal that typically has a long snout, an acute sense of smell, non-retractable claws, and a barking, howling, or whining voice.
2. Loyal - Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.
3. Happy to see you - Expressing joy when meeting someone.
4. Cat - A small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. It is widely kept as a pet or for catching mice.
5. Whiskers - Long projecting hairs or bristles growing near the mouth of an animal such as a cat.
6. Child - A young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.
7. Playful - Fond of games and amusement; lighthearted.
8. Popular - Liked or admired by many people or by a particular person or group.
9. Pet - A domesticated or tamed animal kept for companionship or pleasure.
10. Easy to care for - Requiring little effort to maintain or look after.
11. Domesticated - Tamed and kept as a pet or on a farm.
12. Carnivorous - Feeding on other animals.
13. Acute sense of smell - A very strong ability to detect scents.
14. Non-retractable claws - Claws that cannot be pulled back into the paws.
15. Retractile claws - Claws that can be drawn back into the paws.
