Adolf Hitler with Fritz Todt (1891–1942) at the Berghof. Circa 1935. Todt was a construction engineer and a decorated war veteran who joined the NSDAP in 1922 and the Sturmabteilung in 1931. In his capacity as Inspector General for German Roadways he was responsible for the building of the Autobahn network. Additionally he served as Reich Minister for Armaments and Munitions, Inspector General for Water and Energy and General Plenipotentiary for Regulation of the Construction Industry.
