Cultural appropriation is harmful and should be avoided. Do you agree?
There is a belief that adopting habits of another culture can be detrimental and is better steered clear of. I do agree with the given notion as it might not only be misinterpreted but also can rage conflicts within the nation that accepts it.
First of all, there is a high chance that the natives will misunderstand certain customs and daily habits of a foreign culture. When adopting, in most countries, a particular custom is not inspected or studied properly which often leads to total confusion. To illustrate, youngsters in most parts of the world often pick up and try and imitate the lifestyle and cultural patterns of a foreign country such as the way they dress or act in a social setting without studying the background and origin behind it. Hence these elements may not be fully appreciated and be taken the wrong way by the locals due to being too different and often quite bizarre for those unused to the culture of another country.
Second of all, because the new customs are so different from those the country is used to, the locals often frown upon them and may even call one out for adopting them. This is especially true with the cultures that overpraise and value the natural heritage and would not allow any foreign tradition to tarnish the native one. As an example, in some parts of eastern Asia, there are even established laws forbidding practicing any cultural habits other than their own. That is how the governments minimize the likelihood of altercations which might emerge on cultural and also racial basis. Such a measure makes a lot of sense, since disputes like these are a regular case in the realities of today. This is why adopting the customs of other nations can be quite harmful.
In conclusion, I do think that foreign traditions are not warm-welcomed by the local society for they often bring about misunderstanding and in some circumstances even disputes.

In what situations would people be willing to get to know new people?
Hmm.. based off of my personal observations, I can say that people feel most comfortable getting acquainted with someone new in some sort of a social setting, like a conference or a party of some kind. Because there's plenty of room for a confabulation on a general topic.
Cuz only when we speak on something general, do we actually feel more relaxed and hence more open to talk to strangers rather than having an onslaught of attack with personal questions which feels like an interrogation. And that just makes both sides of a conversation uncomfortable and no longer interested in further interaction.
So any situation is good, so long as there's a common topic to discuss, in my opinion.

How do cultural differences influence communication styles in cross-cultural interactions?
Well, in cross-cultural settings, people have to gander off the beaten path and often resort to various non-standard approaches to switch it up. Cuz normal conversational patterns might not always work and lead to a lotta confusion.
Therefore, most individuals elect more of a diplomatic approach to keep things subtle and non-confrontational. For instance, by treating a person from another culture with respect and without asking inappropriate or instigating questions all the time, like political. And some may even try to be overly friendly actually, to try and appease their foreign counterparts. They can try offering a cup of coffee or a meal to establish a relaxed and pleasant conversational dynamic.
So these are some of many methods that people use.. that people actually have to use, when engaging in a conversation with a representative of another culture.
