What to do if your nerves are frayed? Polytechnic scientists know the answer! Researchers have developed a method that helps restore the body functions lost when nerves are damaged. ❓ Problem Nerve injuries can lead to motor or sensory dysfunction. To correct this, doctors replace the damaged area with a conduit-a person's own nerve taken from another part of the body. Operations with the use of conduits are performed abroad, but they cannot replace defects of more than 3 centimeters. 💡 Solution Scientists created a conduit that was 1-1.5 centimeters long. Separately, chitosan fibers with different content of carbon nanotubes were produced. Then the conduit and fibers were combined, that is, the fibers were introduced into the inner lumen of the tube and fixed. And with the help of this construction, the two ends of the peripheral nerve were connected. This technology makes it possible to create conduits of more than 3 cm in terms of physical and mechanical properties. by @polytech_petra
