🔋 EV Revolution at Risk //
According to BloombergNEF's prediction, currently known reserves of lithium, cobalt, manganese and nickel are insufficient for the EV revolution awaited on the verge of year 2050.
For instance, yearly lithium consumption could increase by 3.5 times by 2030, reaching 2.4 million metric tons of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE).
Nickel (nickel sulfate) is also a rare commodity that will maintain its status until next year, after which BloombergNEF predicts supply & demand balance until 2030.
Analysts expect that the rise of prices will stop in the coming year and later start to decline as new mining operations are built. However, for now, a bias in favor of processing facilities is clearly witnessed.
All in all, by mid-century, establishing widespread recycling of batteries could become the most crucial aspect. Thus, circular economy is a key to a long-term success that enables to mitigate inevitable shortage of natural resources.
