South African Judge Instructed To Suspend The Covid Vaccination Program Pending Further Investigation In order to halt South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign until a thorough examination by independent experts is completed and results are made public, three non-profit organizations have filed a petition with the Pretoria High Court. The Pretoria High Court has been requested by the Covid Care Alliance, Transformative Health Justice, and the nonprofit group Free the Children – Save the Nation to put an end to the government’s campaign to immunize South Africans against Covid. The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, National Treasury, Director-General of the Department of Health, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Health Minister Joe Phaahla are the respondents in the case. This has created a political crisis for President Cyril Ramaphosa, who routed the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction of his party at the party’s Nasrec convention but could be taken out by the electricity crisis. It is kneecapping the economy and pushing millions of people and businesses into more severe hardship. “We are entering a dangerous place. People are playing Russian roulette with infrastructure,” said a senior government official who could not speak on the record. The official said there had been jubilation at power stations when De Ruyter resigned in December, “when he tried to expose shenanigans at power stations. Nersa says Thembani Bukula declared his independent power producer interest before taking up his job Durban - The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has defended its regulatory framework member from allegations that he is conflicted and stands to benefit from the recent nod for Eskom to hike electricity prices from April this year. Thembani Bukula is part of Nersa while he is the CEO of PowerX South Africa, one of the independent power producers contracted to Eskom. His detractors claimed that he was basically javelin throwing as the company he leads was going to benefit from the decision he was part of at Nersa. ESKOM CAN BE FIXED WITHIN THE NEXT 6 TO 12 MONTHS, CLAIMS MANTASHE Mineral resources and energy minister Gwede Mantashe asserts that Eskom can be rectified over the next six to twelve months, despite the fact that the nation is currently experiencing stage 6 load shedding and that electricity price increases are imminent. Mantashe stated on eNCA that Eskom needs to reflect. Technically speaking, are we able to handle the crisis? If not, may we search for that capability outside? If we don't do that, the problem will be quite complicated. If we pay attention to the problem, it will take us six to twelve months to solve it. Mantashe advised Eskom to concentrate on power station upkeep in order to maximize production from its current capacity. “In Eskom, we have 48,000MW connected to the grid but Eskom at best can give us 26,000MW. There is 22,000MW that is idling but connected.
