The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the United States-led coalition on Friday arrested a suspected leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, a conflict monitor reported. “In a special operation in the town of al-Busayrah in Deir Ezzor countryside, the global coalition forces and the SDF arrested a leader of the Islamic State organization who leads a cell in the town to launch attacks and target SDF areas,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor. @KurdishFrontNews

-What is striking is that the Turkish attacks, especially the Tal Hamis area, which is far from the Turkish-Syrian border, targeted our points as well as civilians. -Civilians who tried to help and transport the wounded where they were targeted. It is known that in international law, when the wounded are helped, no one can target them, but Turkey did, and this in itself is terrorism. -In general, the wounded who died as a result of being targeted by Turkey range in age from 11 years old to 60 years old. -The goal of these attacks is to intimidate the population, but it cannot announce this publicly, as they claim that they are attacking the SDF, but it is clear that the targeted people are civilians. @KurdishFrontNews

Director of the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Farhad Shami: -The Turkish state does not need arguments and pretexts in order to launch attacks. It is continuing the attacks and it will never stop. -We said that before now about the Turkish occupation, and whenever it gets the opportunity, especially through its drones or warplanes, it launches its terrorist attacks. -The Turkish occupation also has attempts, from a diplomatic, military and political standpoint, to launch ground operations, and as we know, there were previous attacks on Afrin and then on Girê Spi, especially after the agreement with some international powers, It is currently making attempts in the same context, and is creating pretexts to attack this region. -We should not expect that the Turkish state will one day stop its attacks against the regions of northern and eastern Syria, as it will sometimes use the excuse that this region will now hold local elections. @KurdishFrontNews

Reporter Scharo Maroof: 100+ Kurds (including minors) were arrested and hundreds more are being evicted from the Kurdish neighbourhood Arnavutköy in Istanbul The neighbourhood is to be demolished to make room for investment projects - the Turkish administration has ordered the demolition of the neighbourhood - but! The administrative court has ruled that the demolition is illegal. The inhabitants were also not offered any compensation. Escorted by turkish riot police, state administered demolition crews moved into the neighbourhood over night - the Kurdish inhabitants protested this development but the demolition continued - the inhabitants then barricaded themselves in their homes, which lead to these awful scenes. @KurdishFrontNews

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have complained to the US about its silence over the increased Turkish aggression that has heavily damaged infrastructure in northeast Syria. “Our American partner's silence as our schools, hospitals and power plants are being destroyed, as civilians are being killed in Turkish drone strikes, regretfully leads us to a sole conclusion: that the Turks are acting with the unspoken blessing of the United States,” SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi told Al-Monitor. According to a report of the Northeast Syria (NES) NGO Forum, a coordination group for non-governmental organizations operating in northeast Syria, escalations (by Turkey) in October through December 2023, have all but decimated the civilian infrastructure relied upon by the population of the Kurdish enclave. “Electricity transfer stations, water stations, gas and fuel plants have been targeted repeatedly,” the report said. @KurdishFrontNews

A civilian was killed in an accident while he was travelling on the road to Ablin in Jabal Al-Zawiyah area in Idlib countryside. According to SOHR sources, a speeding armoured vehicle of the Turkish forces crashed into the victim’s motorcycle, which led to his death. Meanwhile, young locals confiscated the Turkish armoured vehicle until the arrival of internal security forces and dignitaries from the region in order to obtain financial compensation for the benefit of the victim’s family. It is worth noting that Turkish forces are deployed in areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and they are stationed in several military posts and bases, where Turkish forces move between those posts as a part of routine activities. @KurdishFrontNews

Two more US officials have resigned over the Gaza war, saying that the Biden administration is not telling the truth about Israeli obstruction of humanitarian assistance to more than two million Palestinians trapped and starving in the tiny coastal strip. Alexander Smith, a contractor for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), said he was given a choice between resignation and dismissal after preparing a presentation on maternal and child mortality among Palestinians, which was cancelled at the last minute by USAID leadership last week. Smith, a senior adviser on gender, maternal health, child health, and nutrition chose to resign on Monday after four years at USAID. In his resignation letter to the head of the agency, Samantha Power, he complained about the inconsistencies in USAID’s approach to different countries and humanitarian crises, and the general treatment of Palestinians. In another resignation on Tuesday, a state department official from the bureau of population, refugees and migration, Stacy Gilbert, sent an email to colleagues explaining that she was leaving because of an official finding by the department that Israel was not deliberately obstructing the flow of food or other aid into Gaza. Smith and Gilbert bring the total number of Biden administration officials to have publicly resigned over US policy on Gaza to nine, though Josh Paul, the first official to resign, said that at least two dozen more had left quietly, without a public declaration. @KurdishFrontNews

A key issue in the Peshmerga salary negotiations between Erbil-Baghdad is the payroll records. Jabar Yawar, former Secretary of the Peshmerga Ministry, revealed that neither the KRG finance ministry nor the Peshmerga ministry has payroll records for the security forces. Details: In an interview with VOA Kurdish, Yawar stated: "Frankly, I didn't possess the list of names of the 80th Peshmerga forces [Yawar was PUK and 80th force is KDP]. It is true that the Ministry of Finance lacks the list of names and information of the 70th and 80th forces. During my tenure at the ministry before retirement, I was repeatedly asked by the finance ministry to send the list of names of the Peshmerga, 70, and 80 forces to them, but even we didn't have it... They would only send numbers and codes, stating the number of brigade commanders, Peshmergas, and so on, so neither us nor the finance ministry had a complete payroll with full names. However, we sent the complete names and information of the joint brigades and the ministry office whenever requested." Yawar also mentioned the presence of numerous "guards", which he refers to as "ghost employees," who do not fulfill the actual duties of the Peshmerga. The number of these guards is estimated to be between 50,000 and 60,000. They are associated with party or government officials and are often organized into brigades, regiments, or battalions. @KurdishFrontNews

While KRG civil servants have received their April salaries, it has been 55 days since KRG Peshmerga and security forces received their March salaries and they have yet to receive their April salaries. According to local sources, the Roj Peshmerga remains one of the key issues, as the Iraqi finance ministry has stated it cannot send their salaries because it directly contradicts the Iraqi constitution, which considers them a foreign group. The KRG PM is currently in Baghdad seeking to resolve the issue of security forces' salaries. There is a possibility that the salaries will be sent by next week, excluding those of the Roj Peshmerga. @KurdishFrontNews

At yesterday’s Kirkuk-focused meeting with the Iraqi PM, the KDP, the Arab Siyada faction, and the Turkmen Front submitted an agreement which led to a verbal altercation between the KDP and PUK, with the PUK accusing the KDP of pushing for the Turkish agenda. The agreement proposes dividing Kirkuk's administrative posts: the governor's role will rotate among the Kurds (seven months), the Turkmen (one year), and the Arabs (two years). Other key posts will be allocated one year to the Kurds, two years to the Turkmen, and one year to the Arabs. Each party holds 6-7 seats in the 16-seat Kirkuk provincial council. The PUK, the Christian seat, and some Arab parties oppose the agreement, preventing the three parties from securing the nine council members needed for support. @KurdishFrontNews
