She had given up life as an actress to become a nun.
She was thirty-three when she died. From Derry in Northern Ireland.

He was a Ukrainian Redemptorist exarch (bishop) and martyr. He was a Ukrainian Greek Catholic, a Church in full communion with Rome. He was arrested for his faith during the communist regime. He was sentenced to 6 years forced labor in Siberia. He worked in a blacksmith shop which ruined his health. His 6-year sentence continued for 11 years. After his release, he lived under constant surveillance and irregular torture. | 0 |

| 14 |  Veronica, although the Evangelists fail to mention her, will ever be venerated by the Christian World. Seraphica was a lady of wealth and position, who lived on the street through which Jesus passed on His way to Calvary. It is thought by some that it was in the home of Seraphica that Mary and her companions sought shelter from the crowd. Perhaps it was just at the time when Jesus was passing by, when Mary and the others were prostrated with grief, that Seraphica, unable to bear any longer the heavy pall of sorrow, rushed out to see Jesus, covered with perspiration and blood. stumbling along. Unable to restrain her pity and, womanlike, unmindful of the consequences in man's hour of need, Seraphica, undismayed by the threats of the soldiers, pushed her way through the struggling throng, fell upon her knees before the burdened Victim, and pressed upon Him her handkerchief. Jesus, grateful to the tender hearted woman, must have taken the linen with His left hand as He held the cross with His right, and applied it to His holy face. As quickly as she had come, Seraphica was gone back into the crowd and then into the house. Picture the holy awe that must have settled upon the Mother and those round about her, when Seraphica held up the blood-stained linen to their startled gaze, to see stamped upon it the image of the thorn-crowned head and bleeding face of the suffering Christ!
How richly did our Lord repay the kindness of this woman, Seraphica, known to the Christian World as Veronica, which name she took when she became a follower of the Crucified! Naturally the image of the Holy Face was treasured most zealously by Veronica and was handed down from generation to generation as one of the most precious relics of the early Church. The Pilgrim in Jerusalen is asked to turn aside, on the Way of Sorrows, and stop a moment in a little shrine, where is a sculptured replica of Veronica offering a linen cloth to the suffering Christ. | 0 |

| 18 | Does “turn the other cheek” mean not to rebuke any offender?
We need to pray and make reparations for the blasphemies and sacrileges committed. However, we should also energetically rebuke the offenders by instructing them that what they are doing is wrong and that they should stop mocking our faith.
Jesus’ teaching about ‘turning the other cheek’ in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:38-39) refers to not being vengeful, to never repay evil with evil, as Saint Paul also teaches in Romans 12:17.21.
Nevertheless, Jesus also rebuked and drove the sellers and the moneychangers out of the Temple with a whip, overturning their tables (Mark 11:15-16) (John 2:14-16). So, when someone mocks or shows irreverence toward our faith, we cannot remain silent as if nothing has happened. Instead, we should call their attention by telling them that what they are doing is wrong and that they should stop doing such things. We should rightfully rebuke them, but without insulting them or mocking them in return; otherwise, we would be sinning by repaying evil with evil.
Let’s also recall that Jesus responded when He was slapped in the face (John 18:22-23). That was a slap to the Face of God. Therefore, when our Lord is slapped, we cannot remain silent. Furthermore, ‘Admonishing the Sinner’ and ‘Instructing the Ignorant’ are some of the spiritual works of mercy.
