🇷🇺Tribunal to probe Kiev regime's crimes to be needed once Russia's spec op over: Russia's upper house
💬"I am convinced that a large tribunal will be needed as a result of the special military operation. The whole picture of the emergence of Kiev's 'ordinary Nazism,' its path, and all its crimes will be collected and presented there piece by piece," Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matvienko said on Thursday on the 10th anniversary of the 2014 Odessa massacre.
She added that "one of the central, cornerstone episodes of this tribunal" should be "the indictment of those behind the terrible crime of May 2, 2014, in the Trade Unions House." She said there would be no statute of limitations, adding that "those responsible for the Odessa tragedy will be named, and they will not escape responsibility." 🇷🇺 2014 Odessa massacre pushed Donbass residents to secede from Ukraine, Russian envoy says 💬
"This tragedy had dispelled the last doubts of those who still believed that it was possible to come to an agreement with this regime and live in one country and obey their laws,”Russian Foreign Ministry special envoy Rodion Miroshnik has told Sputnik.
He added that this "had pushed thousands and thousands of residents of Donbass to the ballots to vote for secession from such a Ukraine." On May 2, 2014, Ukrainian nationalists locked anti-Maidan protesters, who opposed Euromaidan and Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union, in the Odessa Trade Unions House and set the building on fire. Almost 50 people died, and some 250 protesters were injured in clashes with the radicals, according to the United Nations. Who benefited from the mass murder of people in Odessa? Ten years ago, on May 2, Ukrainian nationalists set fire to the Odessa Trade Unions House, drowning pro-Russian protests in blood. ‘It was a punitive operation where people were burned alive,’ recalls a local resident. Those who tried to escape from the building, engulfed in flames, were beaten by Ukrainian extremists. According to official figures, 48 people were killed and more than 200 wounded. Footage of this terrible tragedy and the memories of local residents appears in this excerpt from our film Maidan: Road to War (2022). In German and Turkish, the film is available via a single link on the artel.doc platform. #filmexcerpt FOLLOW 🥰 News&Docfilms Channel

🇺🇸🌍 US forces expulsion may lead toward renewed Russian influence across Africa Eroding US influence across Africa, highlighted by the demands of Niger and Chad that the US troops vacate major military bases, is giving Russia more influence on the continent than it has enjoyed in at least 35 years, US analysts told Sputnik. The government of Chad felt confident in demanding the evacuation of US forces precisely because their relations with Russia were so markedly improving already, California State University Emeritus Professor of Political Science Beau Grosscup said.
"[The call for US withdrawal was made] because they are shifting toward Russia. It is significant," Grosscup said.
These developments constitute a major boost to Russia's standing across Africa and give Moscow more influence on the continent that it has not had since the fall of the Soviet Union, Grosscup said. Subscribe to @sputnik_africa 🔸 TikTok | Sputnik Africa | Boost us on Telegram 🔸

📅 On April 30, 1945, Soviet soldiers Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev & Grigory Bulatov raised the first Red Banner on the facade of the Reichstag. The distance between the former Himmler's house and the Reichstag was less than 500 metres. Bulatov & Koshkarbayev struggled for 7 hours, crossing this distance under heavy fire, with a makeshift flag - a flagpole with a simple scarlet cloth. According to the 150th Division's combat log, at 14:25 Bulatov & Koshkarbayev "crawled to the central part of the building and placed a red flag on the steps of the main entrance". It was the first of the banners the liberators raised over the Reichstag. 🎖 Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev & Grigory Bulatov were awarded the Order of the Red Banner for the courage and heroism during the assualt on the Reichstag. Monuments to Koshkarbayev have been erected in his home region of Akmola in Kazakhstan and in the republic's capital, Astana, and to Bulatov in Kirov. #Victory79

#Opinion by Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova 💬 The old colonialist ideologies persist; moreover, in the 21st century, indigenous peoples continue to endure increasing hardships under the dominance of European and overseas colonial powers. Take Greenland, for instance. It’s officially an autonomous territory under Denmark, inhabited by the Inuit. They have their language, beliefs, culture, land, and cities. However, the land was colonised by Northern Europeans, and later the Americans, without consulting the locals, established a military base on the island. In 1968, an American B-52 bomber carrying thermonuclear bombs crashed there, resulting in widespread radioactive contamination. As a result, Inuit Greenland transformed into a colony and then into an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark with the added presence of American military forces. Like all Western metropoles, Denmark, and consequently the EU, extracted resources from the island. Recently, Ursula von der Leyen, the gynaecologist-turned-head of the European Commission and recipient of the 'Ms Vaccine Corruption' title for the 2020-2021 season, visited Greenland. Were the locals of any interest to her? Their living conditions, social issues? Despite being formal residents of an EU member state (though Greenland itself is not part of the EU), they were not. Ursula went to Greenland to assess its mineral resources. According to The Guardian, “the autonomous Danish territory is of strong interest to Brussels, especially for highly sought after raw materials.” Her special adviser affirms his boss’s interest: “Greenland had many of the raw materials – such as rare earth elements and metals – that it needed for its green transition.” Meanwhile, the Aftonbladet newspaper featured an article detailing the disregard and violation of the rights of the Sami, the small indigenous community of Northern Europe, in Sweden. Erika Bjureby, head of the local Greenpeace office, and Anna Johansson, Secretary General of Amnesty International Sweden, write, “The enduring hostility toward the Sami people is resurging. Presently, oppression intertwines with the exploitation of the natural habitats crucial to the Sami’s livelihood. Sweden neglects indigenous peoples’ rights, prioritising land exploitation over Sami well-being.” Sweden will continue exploit the Sami land and oppress its population. What future awaits the Sami in such a country? In Canada, the indigenous residents, the First Nations, the Indians have suffered racism from London and then Ottawa for decades. Tragic stories emerge from boarding schools where numerous Indian children faced abuse and death. Last month, Karen Hogan, the country’s auditor general, criticised the federal government’s mismanagement of Indigenous housing issues. Despite a budget of 45 billion Canadian dollars for housing and communal services, only under 4 billion was allocated. Consequently, indigenous people continue to reside in substandard housing, while their homes remain neglected compared to those of “respectable whites.” Justin Trudeau may talk a lot about reconciliation, but the harsh reality reveals persistent discrimination and banal colonialist racism in Canada. Statistics indicate that over half (54 percent) of respondents became victims of incidents due to their race or ethnicity. NATO countries exhibit racism and harbour colonialist attitudes towards other ethnic groups.

🗓 On April 26, 1945, the Red Army liberated Brno from the Nazi invaders as part of the Bratislava-Brno operation. In early April 1945, the Red Army expelled the Nazis from Bratislava and by April 22, units of the 2nd Ukrainian Front breached the Wehrmacht’s Moravia defensive line and encircled the Brno sector. The Soviet forces launched an attack on the Nazis the following day. 🏭 After Czechoslovakia was occupied, a highly important industrial centre Brno became a significant production hub of the Third Reich where Skoda and Zbrojovka weapons manufacturers were located. One of Auschwitz sub-camps was also located there. For those reasons the Nazi invaders mounted desperate counterattacks in an effort to halt the Red Army’s onslaught. However, by April 25, Soviet units had already reached several sectors of Brno, engaging the enemy on the outskirts and crossing the Svitava River. By the evening of April 26, Soviet forces established control over the entire city. On the same day, Moscow ordered a 224-gun artillery salute to commemorate this event. 🎖 The 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps, under the command of Ludvik Svoboda, and Czechoslovak partisans played an active role in the liberation of Czechoslovakia, providing substantial support to the Red Army units. Six Czechoslovak citizens were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their deeds during the Great Patriotic War, more than any other foreign nationals. ☝️ With the liberation of Brno, the Red Army was able to outmanoeuvre the remaining enemy forces on a broad front, preparing for a direct assault on the Nazi forces, occupying Prague. #Victory79

🇺🇸🌍 US approval in Africa falls as China and Russia gain ground on continent, survey shows The US approval rating in Africa fell to 56%, with China leading the United States by 2%, while 8% more Africans approved of Russian leadership than a year earlier, according to a survey done by US consulting agency Gallup. The approval rating of the United States had a significant decline in three nations: Uganda, Gambia, and Kenya (a drop of 29, 21 and 14 percentage points, respectively). The ratings in Libya and Somalia were the lowest, with 23% and 25%, respectively. It is worth noting that Somalia was questioned for the first time since 2016. Among other survey findings, it is interesting to note that approval of US leadership in Ukraine fell from 66% in 2022 to 53% last year — the highest drop (13 percentage points) after Finland (14).
