Leiria Castle 🏰 🇵🇹
The medieval castle of Leiria was built by Alfonso I of Portugal for the purpose of creating a line of defense against the Arabs. Sancho I ordered erection of the walls of the castle in 1195.

Geoffrey Chaucer (1342/43—1400) 🏴 📖
Geoffrey Chaucer was an English poet,author best known for 'The Canterbury Tales'.
The Canterbury Tales ranks as one of the greatest poetic works in English. He also contributed importantly in the second half of the 14th century to the management of public affairs as a courtier, diplomat, and civil servant. In that career he was trusted and aided by three successive kings—Edward III, Richard II, and Henry IV.

The ruins of Castell Llanhuadain in Llawhaden, Wales 🏰 🏴
Castell Llanhuadain was built in the 12th century. The structure fell into decline in the 16th century under the control of Bishop William Barlow, the first Bishop appointed after Henry's Laws in Wales Acts.
*The vast majority of the ruins seen today date from the late 14th century.

Baba Vida Fortress 🏰 🇧🇬
Baba Vida was built in the 10th century,
It consists of two concentric curtain walls and about nine towers of which three are preserved to their full medieval height, including the original battlements, and is the only entirely preserved medieval castle in the country.
*The Baba Vida stronghold withstood an eight-month-long siege by Byzantine forces led by Basil II.

Durham Cathedral ⛪️ 🏴
The present cathedral was completed between 1093 and 1133.
After all these centuries, the cathedral is still active. Today, it is the seat of the bishop of Durham and is the mother church of the diocese of Durham. There are daily church services at the cathedral.

The Kolbenturnier (mace tournament)
Was a type of tournament in the 15th century in which competitors would try to batter each other and knock crests off of the helmets of their opponents. They were fought between small groups in limited fenced-in areas using only Kolbens, or maces.
