WHAT IS SUTURE ZONE ?
✔️It is a linear belt of intense deformation, where two plates are welding (joining together). These zones provide the only record of deep oceanic crust and of ancient seafloor processes for roughly the first 90% of Earth's history.
✔️ Their study provides a means to understand the end-product of plate tectonic processes in time and space. In plate tectonics, sutures are seen as the remains of subduction zones.
✔️ Suture zone is often represented on the surface by a mountain range comprising intensely deformed rocks.
✔️ ITSZ is one of the best examples of suture zones.
Block disintegration
Block disintegration occurs due to repeated expansion and contraction of rocks during day and night, causing stress on the joints of the rocks, which eventually splits the rocks into blocks. It occurs in the area where the diurnal range of temperature is very high.
