#Beijing-based studio #AOE #Architects has completed a multi-use building, called “One Sino Park” in Chongqing, #China. Designed and constructed into the mountain face of a rocky cliffside, the #3,000 square meter structure integrates the geometric forms of the surrounding rock formations with its sculptural elements. With One Sino Park, AOE highlights the relationships between architecture, nature and the people of Chongqing with its bold deconstructivist style. #The main entrance of the building is located on the third level, providing access to main sales center functional areas, as well as a heated swimming pool and health club on the ground level. One Sino Park plans to develop into a community art center in the future, as it houses exhibition spaces across the second and third floors, and a small art gallery on the top level. Embedded with strong childlike sensation but never get rid of practicality, the petal-like volumes are assigned as several modules each containing specific functional program inside. Three module types are set as independent and replicable units, which can be prefabricated and then assembled on-site, forming a flexible system of construction within a controllable time and feasible to conduct in phases as well. #Two American astronauts have splashed down, as the first commercial crewed mission to the International Space Station returned to Earth. The SpaceX Dragon Capsule carrying Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken came down in the Gulf of Mexico just south of Pensacola on Florida's Gulf coast. A recovery vessel moved in to pick up the vehicle and extricate the men. The touchdown marks the first crewed US water landing since the final outing of an Apollo command module 45 years ago. Hurley's and Behnken's capsule hit the water at about 14:48 EDT (19:48 BST; 18:48 GMT). SOLAR DROP, Panoramic Majlis by #vincentcallebautarchitectures , Architectural and Engineering Consultancy by Invitation, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates The aquatic complex is implanted on an artificial island in Abu Dhabi, a polder measuring 100 meters by 100 meters, at the end of a 500 meters long breakwater. The purpose of the project «Solar Drop» is to maximize the magnificence of this exceptional site thrown on the Sea of Oman. To free the skyline from the carrier points of the construction, the project mainly bases on an enormous structural dome which spreads in the space as a flower taking root at the center of the island. This flower consists, in fact, of 2 coupled spiral domes. #Lalibela (Amharic: ላሊበላ) is a town in Lasta Amhara Region, 🇪🇹 #Ethiopia famous for its rock-cut monolithic churches. The whole of Lalibela is a large antiquity of the medieval and post-medieval civilization of Ethiopia. In a #1970 report of the historic dwellings of Lalibela, #Sandro #Angelini evaluated the #vernacular earthen #architecture on the #Lalibela World Heritage Site, including the characteristics of the traditional earth houses and analysis of their state of conservation. His report described two types of vernacular housing found in the area. One type are a group he calls the "tukuls", round huts built of stone and usually having two stories. #coxarchitecture's National Maritime Museum of China has opened to the public recently by comprising four wings, focusing on the themes of "the ancient ocean," "ocean today," "journey of discovery" and "the age of the dragon". The project aims to highlight China’s maritime evolution. With a distinctive form, reaching out into the bay from a large waterfront parkland, China's first National Maritime Museum is a monumental intervention. Together with Jonathan Medcalf, and teamed up with engineering consultancy Zuhlke and the Noonee engineering team, this next generation wearable chair design focuses on optimizing the comfort and user experience while improving manufacturing of the parts and assembly strategy.
