🇪🇺 - To people thinking Meloni's win in 2022 was some huge success for the Italian RW and that we all should bow down to the genius she had by "moderating": its not. What actually happened is that in 2018, M5S ran on a clear populist RW platform, it was in the same group that was the ancestor for PfE today, they got 30%, another 37% (!) went for the CDX, which was then led by Matteo Salvini. M5S, after a brief coalition with Salvini decided to soften and only focus on economic policy. It didn't work, and at the end of the day they installed Mario Draghi to end the legislature. Then, the election happened and Meloni won at 40%. But no, Italy having a RW govt is not because of Meloni's wisdom. In fact, it would be very possible that without her Salvini would be back in power in Rome as Prime minister. The reason she's accepted this much by Brussels is in part because she isn't a threat, but also mostly because her election puts Brussels in front of a fait accomplit.
