💡 Data Integrity Critical to Embedded Systems How do you validate sensor and communication data to ensure data integrity in embedded systems? ▫️ 1. At least use a parity check Parity is a data integrity mechanism that looks at the number of ones in a data stream and will then adjust a parity bit to make the overall number of ones either odd or even. Parity works well for detecting single bit flips. However, if two or more bits flip, it’s possible the error would go undetected. For that case, a more robust technique is required. ▫️ 2. Use a checksum A checksum is an algorithm that is designed to detect errors that occur naturally or randomly in a dataset. A checksum is often calculated over a set of data which then results in the checksum for the data. ▫️ 3. Use a cyclical redundancy check (CRC) A CRC is a checksum that uses polynomial division to calculate the checksum. CRC is so effective that many microcontroller vendors will include a hardware-based CRC calculator. More information... #articles

🗜 3D-printed Variable Capacitor Have you ever stuck in the middle of a project trying to find out the perfect size capacitor for your project? If yes then this is the project for you! To make a variable capacitor we need to vary some parameters upon which the capacitance depends: the capacitance value depends on the area and the distance been the parallel plates. We will change the area of interaction of two parallel plates to vary the capacitance. Our solution will consist of two cylindrical aluminum foils whose area of interaction will be controlled by the rotation of a threaded rod. It will provide precision control over the range of the capacitance. More information... #projects #electronics #3d_modeling

🔬 How To Get Started in Soldering Becoming a master of the melting and gluing powers of solder can help you start building your own electronics. For hobbyists who want to create their own electronics from scratch, there comes a time in every project when two metal surfaces must merge. Solder, which changes from a flexible solid to a liquid, then back to a solid in seconds, is the magical metal glue that makes this happen. Solder can also be a frustrating mess. For reasons both aesthetic and functional, you'll want to learn how to work with it cleanly and neatly, because sloppy soldering means your project might not work. The following article will get you acquainted with basic terms of electronics, soldering and give you a good grounding to start working on your own electrical projects. 🎛 20 Cool Raspberry Pi Zero Cases to 3D Print Small article with a list of different 3D models of cases for your Raspberry Pi Zero board, the links to 3D files with models are included. "The Raspberry Pi Zero is a tinkerer’s dream! This tiny single-board computer features a 1-GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and on-board Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, all for only $10. To reach that price point, the Pi comes fairly bare-bones; it only includes the circuit board itself, with no accessories. As such, the board can be fairly fragile, so having a case for your Pi is important. To that end, we’ve gathered a list of our top 20 Raspberry Pi Zero cases. Let’s take a look!" 🤖 ESP32 notifying about Motion Detected through Telegram Bot This tutorial shows how to send notifications to your Telegram account when the ESP32 detects motion. As long as you have access to the internet in your smartphone, you’ll be notified no matter where you are. Here’s an overview on how the project works: ▫️ You’ll create a Telegram bot for your ESP32. ▫️ The ESP32 is connected to a PIR motion sensor. ▫️ When the sensor detects motion, the ESP32 sends a warning message to your telegram account. ▫️ You’ll be notified in your Telegram account whenever motion is detected. This is a simple project, but shows how you can use Telegram in your IoT and Home Automation projects. The idea is to apply the concepts learned in your own projects. 📟 Watchy: Arduino-compatible watch uses an ESP32 microcontroller and an e-ink display Watchy is an open source product that uses an ESP32, an E-ink display, and costs about $50. The display is 1.5 inches — good enough for a watch — and it has a real time clock, a vibration motor, an accelerometer, and four buttons. The whole thing runs on a 200 mAh lithium polymer battery. The charger is microUSB and you can also upload software to it using the usual Arduino tools. Unlike a normal Arduino program, all the work in a typical Watchy program happens in setup() so the watch can mostly sleep and it updates the 200×200 typically just once a minute. As an example, [Stephan] wrote a watch face that uses an old Irish alphabet to tell time. He plans to add code to grab online data, too, and the phone has support for connecting wirelessly and parsing JSON to make tasks like that easier. 🔌 Latching Power Switch Circuit (Auto Power Off Circuit) for ESP32, ESP8266, Arduino In this article we’ll show you how to build a Latching Power Switch Circuit, also know as an Auto Power Off Circuit. You can use this circuit to auto-power off the ESP32, ESP8266, Arduino, or any other microcontroller. This circuit allows you to cut off power completely when the microcontroller is not executing any task. In other words, as soon as the microcontroller finishes executing a task it turns itself off via software. This is a great way to make batteries last longer in your electronics projects. 📟 IBoard! Web-controlled Whiteboard The idea of the project is to create an erasable whiteboard that could write and draw in real time via a web interface and therefore also from a smartphone. "The project that I want to present I have realized entirely by myself from the mechanics to the control software. In life I make the web programmer and I have thought to exploit this knowledge by applying them to the robotics world. I modeled every single piece of mechanics, I printed it in 3D with my Davinci 3D, assembled the electronics part and finally developed the control software, it was a wonderful experience for me that gave me the opportunity to understand best of all the production process of a real prototype." 📰 Next Raspberry Pi CPU Will Have Machine Learning Built In At the recent tinyML Summit 2021, Raspberry Pi co-founder Eben Upton teased the future of 'Pi Silicon' and it looks like machine learning could see a massive improvement thanks to Raspberry Pi's news in-house chip development team. It is safe to say that the Raspberry Pi Pico and its RP2040 SoC have been popular. The Pico has only been on the market for a few weeks, but already has sold 250,000 units with 750,000 on back order. During Upton's talk at 40 minutes the slide changes and we see "Future Directions" a slide that shows three current generation 'Pi Silicon' boards, two of which are from board partners, SparkFun's MicroMod RP2040 and Arduino's Nano RP2040 Connect. The third is from ArduCam and they are working on the ArduCam Pico4ML which incorporates machine learning, camera, microphone and screen into the Pico package...
