📰 Researchers create world's most power-efficient high-speed ADC microchip Researchers led by a team at Brigham Young University have just built the world's most power-efficient high-speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC) microchip. An ADC is a tiny piece of technology present in almost every electronic piece of equipment that converts analog signals (like a radio wave) to a digital signal. The ADC created by BYU professor Wood Chiang, Ph.D. student Eric Swindlehurst and their colleagues consumes only 21 milli-Watts of power at 10GHz for ultra-wideband wireless communications. Current ADCs consume hundreds of milli-Watts or even Watts of power at comparable speeds. The BYU-made ADC has the highest power efficiency currently available globally, a record it holds by a substantial margin. More information... #news #electronics

📚 Pluralsight - 20 Patterns to Watch for in Engineering (2019) This is a collection of 20 work patterns of individuals and teams of Software Engineers, with details of “What is it?” and “How to recognize it?”, as well as suggestions on “What to do?” by Pluralsight. Pluralsight, especially after acquiring GitPrime, has been focused a lot on the data & metrics side of Software Development. Using their experience and expertise, they came up with this guide to help Managers and Leaders with recognizing patterns in their teams and team members, and act accordingly. It is a short book of 52 pages —half of them are cover pages—, which is easy and concise. Some patterns are quite obvious; but a few of them were very interesting. Although it is not an “eye-opener” material, it is definitely worth the time. #books #work #software

📚 Yury Tiumentsev, Mikhail Egorchev - Neural Network Modeling and Identification of Dynamical Systems (2019) Neural Network Modeling and Identification of Dynamical Systems presents a new approach on how to obtain the adaptive neural network models for complex systems that are typically found in real-world applications. The book introduces the theoretical knowledge available for the modeled system into the purely empirical black box model, thereby converting the model to the gray box category. This approach significantly reduces the dimension of the resulting model and the required size of the training set. This book offers solutions for identifying controlled dynamical systems, as well as identifying characteristics of such systems, in particular, the aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft. #books #machine_learning #control

🤖 An Introductory Robot Programming Tutorial In this article, I’m going to show how to use a Python robot framework to develop control software, describe the control scheme I developed for my simulated robot, illustrate how it interacts with its environment and achieves its goals, and discuss some of the fundamental challenges of robotics programming that I encountered along the way. In order to follow this tutorial on robotics programming for beginners, you should have a basic knowledge of two things: ▫️ Mathematics—we will use some trigonometric functions and vectors. ▫️ Python—since Python is among the more popular basic robot programming languages—we will make use of basic Python libraries and functions. The snippets of code shown here are just a part of the entire simulator, which relies on classes and interfaces, so in order to read the code directly, you may need some experience in Python and object oriented programming. 🥦 The Future of Farming Is Inside This Bomb Shelter Deep beneath the streets of London, in a complex of bomb shelters left abandoned since World War II, thousands of green sprouts are being grown from seed without soil or sunlight, in tunnels transformed into a high-tech commercial farm. Above each growing bench is a round, yellow sensor the size of a large coin that records temperature, humidity, and illumination, and sends the data to the University of Cambridge’s engineering department. The results are fed back to GU, which compares them with the crop yields to determine which conditions are working best for growth. In the past five years that the farm has been operating, technology has improved a lot—more efficient LED lighting, water recycling, and air management systems. More information... #articles
