❗ Statement by Ambassador Gennady Gatilov at the Conference on Disarmament (CD), and a minute of silence in connection with the tragic loss of President, Foreign Minister, and a number of high-ranking representatives of the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran: 📍 May 21, 2024, Geneva ▪️ On behalf of the Russian Federation, I would like to express our deepest condolences for the tragic loss of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, the Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and those who accompanied them. ▪️ We are convinced that they will be remembered not only as outstanding political figures with undeniable authority on the international stage, but also as true patriots of their country who selflessly worked for the benefit of their people. ▪️ We would like to acknowledge their role in consistently defending, including within the Non-Aligned Movement, the interests of developing states, which are increasingly conducting independent foreign policies. Thanks to such significant figures, the voice of the "global South" has become louder, its opinion is becoming more significant and largely determinative for contemporary inter-state relations. The Islamic Republic of Iran's firm and principled stance on a wide range of issues on the CD’s agenda, as well as other disarmament forums, is well known. ▪️ Ebrahim Raisi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made invaluable contributions to strengthening relations between our two countries, put great effort into forming the Russian-Iranian strategic partnership, developing effective interaction at multilateral venues, and cooperating within such internationally recognized and authoritative associations as BRICS and the SCO. 📖 FULL STATEMENT

❗ Выступление Постпреда России в Женеве Г.М.Гатилова на Конференции по разоружению и минута молчания в связи с трагической гибелью Президента, Министра иностранных дел и ряда высокопоставленных представителей руководства Исламской Республики Иран: 📍 21 мая 2024 г., Женева ▪️ От имени Российской Федерации хотел бы выразить глубочайшие соболезнования в связи с трагической гибелью Президента Исламской Республики Иран Эбрахима Раиси, Министра иностранных дел Хоссейна Амирабдоллахиана и сопровождавших их лиц. ▪️ Мы убеждены, что они войдут в историю не только как выдающиеся политические деятели, имеющие неоспоримый авторитет на международной арене, но и как настоящие патриоты своей страны, беззаветно трудившиеся на благо её народа. ▪️ Хотели бы отметить их роль в последовательном отстаивании, в т.ч. в рамках Движения неприсоединения, интересов развивающихся государств, которые всё активнее проводят независимую внешнюю политику. ▪️ Please accept my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a helicopter crash in Eastern Azerbaijan province. ▪️ These public officials were highly regarded in Russia for their substantial contributions to our bilateral relations and their shared commitment to fostering a just world based on mutual respect among nations. Upon receiving the terrible news, President Putin immediately ordered to assemble special rescue teams to assist in locating the crash site under deteriorating weather conditions. This action underscores our readiness to provide the best possible assistance to our Iranian friends during this time of crisis. ▪️ I kindly ask you to convey my sympathies to the families and colleagues of the victims, as well as to the people of Iran.

⚡️ Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova: 💬 We are closely monitoring the latest updates regarding the passengers of the third helicopter, which was carrying high-ranking Iranian officials, including President Ebrahim Raisi. We hope they are alive, and that their lives and health are not in danger. Russia is ready to offer the necessary assistance in the search for the missing helicopter and in investigating the causes of the accident.

🎙️ Excerpts from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement at the press briefing following his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping: 📍 May 16, 2024, Beijing 🇷🇺🇨🇳 The current official visit takes place during the 75th anniversary year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our states. Our country was the first to recognize the People's Republic of China on October 2, 1949, the very next day after its proclamation. We provided extensive assistance in the early stages of development of its political system, state institutions and economy. Over the decades, our cooperation has only grown and advanced. 🤝 Our negotiations once again demonstrated that the approaches of Russia and China to many international and regional problems are either similar or coincide, and they also showed the great importance that both Moscow and Beijing place on the development and strengthening of the comprehensive Russian-Chinese partnership and strategic interaction. This partnership, undoubtedly, serves as a model for how relations between neighboring states should be built. 🌐 Both countries pursue independent and autonomous foreign policies. ❗️ We strongly condemn this attack and wish a speedy recovery to the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico. 🇷🇺🇸🇰 We know him as a friend of Russia, who, in this dramatic and historic time, a turning point in the history of humanity, is not afraid to express his point of view, which often differs from the mainstream narrative of the "collective West”.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 May 15 is the Internatinoal Day of Families 🇷🇺 Protecting and strengthening traditional family values and supporting the family as the fundamental unit of society are priorities for the Russian Federation both at the national and international levels. 🇺🇳 Exactly 30 years ago, the international community first celebrated International Day of Families, established by UN General Assembly resolution 47/237. Russia will continue to draw attention to the importance of protecting the institution of the traditional family. ❗️ Article 16.3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State". Similar provisions are contained in international human rights treaties. Russia faithfully fulfils its obligations to protect the family. 👦👧 States parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child have approved this international human rights treaty, convinced that “the family, as the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members and particularly children, should be afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community”. We call on the Committee on the Rights of the Child and other international human rights mechanisms to pay special attention to this provision of the Convention in their work.
