Respecting Veterans in the US: A Different Approach 🇺🇸 #Reading   All over the world, of course, it is customary to develop a respectful attitude towards veterans, but in the United States, this manifests itself a little differently than we are used to. Many veterans here often wear caps and T-shirts and attach some badges or stickers to their cars with veteran symbols or direct inscriptions, letting others know that they served. More often, it is simply decorated in the colors of the American flag rather than some kind of camouflage, so the association is not with war but with country and pride. This happens almost every day, which contrasts very strongly with how we notice veterans in Russia. We get the feeling that veterans only go out on the streets on May 9, because it is on this day that everything is done to “remember.” And the pomp of this holiday is sometimes so intrusive that instead of pride, you rather feel shame for all these inadequate signs and inappropriate merchandising. On all the other days of the year, we suddenly “don’t remember.” We don’t know about veterans of modern wars at all, and there is no way we can accidentally meet them and, say, thank them for their service and for defending their native country if someone has such a desire. In America, this is done all the time, and the phrase “Thank you for your service” can often be heard or seen somewhere. At the same time, there is no holiday like Victory Day, where the concentration of people who served reminds itself of itself. A friend of mine from New York who works in delivery once bought himself a Navy T-shirt just because. Because of this, many customers thought that he was serving and gave him higher tips. In the comments, they wrote words of praise and gratitude for his service. The respect is so obvious. In general, those who have served have their own bonuses when entering educational institutions, when hiring, or when moving up the career ladder. Therefore, many go first to serve and then only to receive higher education. This always has a positive effect on a person’s status. Many politicians also have much more trust, or, in a good sense, authority, if they have served. For example, the current governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, also served first and then entered Harvard. Many people are attracted to the service by its salary, and in general, the army is promoted as something prestigious. For us, the army is largely perceived as something terrible. A place you shouldn’t go to so as not to spoil your life. In the USA, thanks to decent treatment of veterans, decent salaries, and decent conditions, going to serve is the pride of society and a source of respect from others.

ENGLISH PROVERBS: Part #25. LEND YOUR MONEY AND LOSE YOUR FRIEND. Lending money to a friend can sour the friendship. If you ask for repayment, he may be offended, and if he does not repay, you will be offended. LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE. It is a reminder not to bring unnecessary risk or danger upon oneself. LIGHTNING NEVER STRIKES TWICE IN THE SAME PLACE. An unusual situation or event is unlikely to occur again under the same conditions or to the same person. LONG ABSENT, SOON FORGOTTEN. If you haven't seen or spoken to a friend or relative in a long time, he will be forgotten. Such friendships eventually fade away or become a distant memory. Share with friends! ♻️ @english_gem
