Are you applying for your dream job but not sure why you’re unable to crack the role? If yes, there are some things you might be doing wrong in your CV.
1️⃣ Start with a strong summary and craft your headline. The headline of your CV will be one of your first chances to make a good impression on a prospective employer. Ensure it is well written and includes keywords that reflect what you are applying for.
2️⃣ Your CV summary or objective is your attempt at an important first impression. Make sure the language you use is clear, and the HR doesn’t have to read it a few times to understand it - because they won’t. If you have more than 2 years of work experience go for a CV summary. If not go for a CV objective.
3️⃣ Use simple and easy-to-understand words. Do not use fancy words in your CV. Your CV should end maximum within two pages. Some recruiters report they will not even look at CVs on more than one page. A good eye-catchy one page CV is what we recommend to have while applying for jobs. The goal of your CV is to pass information to your potential employer with less time. Most employers do not look over a CV for more than 6 seconds. So it is a smart move to keep your CV short, simple and to the point.
3️⃣ Work experience gives you the opportunity to apply your skills. What you have done can then be put on your resume to further your career. Highlight your work experiences and projects you have pursued. If you are applying for a competitive job there will be definitely 100s of applicants. Work experience is not just limited to the time spent as an employee working at a company. You can get it with an internship, working with your family, or even freelancing.
4️⃣ Mention your contact details so the hiring team can connect with you easily. These will be contact details which you check out frequently so you don't miss the opportunities. Make sure you triple-check everything in your contact information, word for word, and that it’s up to date. Aside from the basic contact information, you also might want to consider putting your social media handles like Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Quora, Github, Medium, and anything else you that is relevant to share with HR.
5️⃣ Add a solid section for skills and rate your level of expertise in each of them. Having skills is very important. A good skills section will be attractive to a potential employer, whilst a bad one could put them off without even reading the rest of your application. Whether soft or hard, skills are the way you can show an employer that you have the ability to execute and progress in a job.

1. Pick a topic you’re passionate about 💛

Technical writing differs from writing because it requires you to go into great detail about a specific topic

4. Write a draft 📝
If this is your first time, the draft doesn't have to be very long; it could even be 500 words
Don't put in so much effort to sound professional. Go with the flow and be real.
5. Read through and edit ✍️
Your draft may contain grammatical errors. It's best to go over it several times to make sure you don't miss any major mistakes.
6. Get a new set of eyes 👀
Let one or two people read your draft. Ask them how they feel about it
Don't be afraid of getting negative feedback. They will only help you identify your flaws and improve your writing skills.
They might even spot some mistakes in the draft.
7. Publish your draft 🚀
Don’t worry if it doesn’t get a lot of interactions. It’s normal especially when starting out fresh.
8. Be consistent 💭
Consistent practice and learning from your mistakes will help you improve your writing skills
If possible, publish an article every week. You can participate in the ‘1 week 2 articles’ challenge

9. Apply for a technical writing job: 💼
Once you feel you’re ready, you can apply for a technical writing role (full time/part time)
