| 5 |  🚨🔥 LITHIUM-ION BATTERY FIRE: WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Imagine you're at home when your phone, power bank, e-bike or other rechargeable device suddenly begins smoking.
What would you do?
👉 DON'T PANIC.
🚨 If there is an immediate fire or dangerous smoke:
1️⃣ GET OUT.
Move everyone away from the danger.
2️⃣ DON'T TAKE RISKS.
Don't attempt to retrieve belongings or handle a burning battery.
3️⃣ CALL FOR HELP.
Contact the emergency services and provide the location and nature of the emergency.
4️⃣ STAY OUT.
Do not re-enter until authorities say it is safe.
Lithium-ion battery fires can be particularly challenging because batteries can reignite after appearing to be extinguished.
⚠️ Never put yourself at risk trying to become a firefighter.

Talk to your family today about what you would do if a rechargeable device caught fire.
Know two ways out of your home. Keep exits clear. Make sure everyone knows how to summon emergency assistance.

A lithium-ion battery may appear completely dead but it can still contain stored energy.
When damaged, crushed, punctured or improperly disposed of, batteries can short-circuit and ignite.
That creates a serious risk not only in your home, but also during waste collection and disposal.
🚫 NEVER:
❌ Throw loose lithium-ion batteries into ordinary household rubbish.
❌ Put damaged batteries where they can be crushed or punctured.
❌ Attempt to dismantle or modify battery packs yourself.
❌ Store damaged batteries alongside combustible materials.
Batteries should be safely handled and disposed of through an appropriate battery-recycling or hazardous-waste programme available to you.
