That is, the US has a trade deficit with Israel of 7 billion dollars. The administration's calculation is 7 (the trade deficit) divided by 20 (Israeli exports to the US) equals 33. This number was divided in half in accordance with Trump's decision regarding the global calculation method, and the resulting number (after rounding up), 17, is the tariff rate that was decided to be imposed on imports from Israel.
