GIVING APPROPRIATE FEEDBACK : STOP WRITING ONLY “SEEN” IN STUDENTS’ BOOKS! USE THESE TEACHER REMARKS INSTEAD: If your learners submit their feedback and the only thing they see in their books is “Seen” or “Checked,” they may know you looked at the work—but they may not know what they did well, what they got wrong, or how to improve. Marking is more than putting a tick on a book page. Your remarks are an integral part of your teaching. Here are better remarks teachers can use: ✅ WHEN THE WORK IS EXCELLENT - Excellent work! - Outstanding! - Brilliant effort! - Very impressive! - Exceptional work! - Excellent understanding! - Keep maintaining this standard. - You have done very well. - Wonderful improvement! - This is commendable. WHEN THE STUDENT HAS DONE WELL - Well done! - Good work! - Good effort! - Very good! - Keep it up! - You are improving. - Good progress! - Nice attempt! - You are getting better. - Keep working hard. WHEN YOU WANT TO ENCOURAGE IMPROVEMENT - You can do better. - Keep practising. - Don't give up. - More effort is needed. - You are capable of more. - Keep trying. - Your improvement is noticeable. - Work harder next time. - You are making progress. - I expect even better from you. WHEN THE WORK IS UNTIDY - Rewrite neatly. - Improve your handwriting. - Keep your work clean. - Pay attention to presentation. - Use your ruler correctly. - Leave appropriate spaces. - Your ideas are good; improve your presentation. - Take more care with your writing.
