Managing your psychology during a crisis is just as important as managing your portfolio. The goal isn’t simply to survive a downturn, but to emerge from it with a portfolio that is potentially stronger and better positioned for the recovery.

| 5 | When everyone is focused on the obvious AI winners and hyperscalers, it may be worth looking one step further.
Instead of only asking, “Which company is building AI?”, we can also ask:
“Which businesses can use AI to meaningfully improve their business outcomes?”
AI adoption can potentially improve productivity, reduce costs, increase margins, enhance customer experiences, or create entirely new revenue streams across many different industries.
That means the beneficiaries of AI may not always be the companies developing the technology itself. Some of the interesting opportunities could lie further down the value chain, where AI is being applied to solve real business problems.
As investors, this is where we can start looking for disconnects—situations where the market may not yet fully recognise the potential impact that AI adoption could have on a company's future earnings or business model.
The next AI opportunity may not necessarily be another obvious AI stock. Sometimes, it could be a company quietly benefiting from the technology behind the scenes.

| 9 | 📈 The real driver isn't the Fed funds rate — it's the 10-year yield
REIT income is long-duration. Cap rates and valuations track the 10-year UST, not the overnight rate. So even with the Fed on hold, if long yields keep climbing (as they did post-Warsh), REIT valuations will feel the squeeze anyway.
🏢 Not all REITs are equal here
Longer WALE + lower gearing = more insulated. Higher leverage + shorter lease profiles = more exposed.
Bottom line: this may not be a green light to pile in, nor a signal to exit. It's a "watch the long end of the curve, not just the Fed" moment with disinflation still the base case for now.

| 10 |  The Fed held rates. The vote didn't.
3.5–3.75% — unchanged. But three dissents pushing for a hike is rare, and it exposes a real fault line inside the FOMC on inflation risk. Fed Chair Warsh gave little away: inflation is cooling, but energy, AI, and tariffs remain live risks. He hinted that rising Treasury yields have already done some of the Fed's tightening for it.
What this means is that a September hike is still on the table. And if it comes, history says it won't be a one-and-done.
What this could mean for Singapore REITs:
📊 Rate uncertainty ≠ rate relief
S-REITs compete with bonds for yield. Without a clear easing path, valuations stay capped as a live hike risk keeps investors cautious.
💰 Higher-for-longer bites hardest where leverage is highest
S-REITs with near-term refinancing needs are most exposed to rising borrowing costs and DPU pressure. | 553 |

| 20 |  Chinese Tech companies are lagging behind due to lack of AI play. The message from this chart is straightforward: While money is not leaving equities entirely, it is rotating.
Investors are rewarding companies with clearer AI-related earnings visibility, while large internet platforms in Hong Kong continue to face valuation pressure and sentiment headwinds.
This is why the weakness in Alibaba and Tencent should be seen in context as well. It is not just about company-specific performance, but also about where global capital is flowing, and right now that flow is favoring semiconductors, memory, and infrastructure rather than consumer internet.
Capital is being redistributed toward sectors and themes with clearer near-term growth visibility, most notably AI.
