#BeOpenDESIGN The most prominent feature of a small ice cream store in Madrid by local studio Solar and Marta Jarabo is a large sun-like lamp that illuminates the interior. The luminous piece is made of stretch fabric and changes colours throughout the day. Not only it draws the attention of pedestrians outside, it also brings an immersive experience to the space. The rest of the interior, including floors, ceilings, and furniture, has been coloured in bright shades of blue, which helps create a recognizable image. #BeOpenARCH Historically in Norway, a small retreat, or bolthole, has served as a shelter to escape the stresses of everyday life whilst doing other recreational activities such as hiking, hunting or fishing. Cabin Nordmarka by local architectural office Rever & Drage mimics the size of the existing wooden cabin and contains only the most necessary features. To retain the old fashioned 1930s charm of the exterior, the new cabin’s windows of the side façade mirrors that of the original.

#BeOpenDESIGN Aiming to encourage people to converse at the table, Eindhoven-based designer Joon Lee has created a tea set named Drink Link where cups are connected to a teapot using synthetic ropes. The rope covering the porcelain was hardened through a heating process while the linkages to the cups remain flexible directly linking every person using the tableware to each other. “By mimicking a historical artefact through using a different methodology and material, I created my own interpretation of the traditional Delft blue porcelain”, says the designer. #BeOpenARCH Inspired by introverted castles of the past, Chilean studio Elemental has created Casa del Tec, a cylindrical concrete house outside of Monterrey, Mexico. The textured reinforced concrete shell features cut-out arched windows whose smooth parabolic subtractions reveal the depth of the wall, which serves as a thermal mass for the home's climate control.

#BeOpenARCH US firm CallisonRTKL has topped a new terminal for the airport in Guadalajara, Mexico, with a wavy wooden roof perforated with hundreds of holes to filter sunlight. With wooden details, indoor plants and green walls, the design pays homage to Guadalajara's arid climate, mountains and native agave plants, which are used to make tequila. According to the firm, the new Guadalajara airport will reduce its carbon footprint in comparison to a similar, medium-sized airport building, which emits an average of 30,188 metric tons of carbon dioxide. The new terminal would emit as little as 2,814 metric tons, which will be achieved via using more environmentally friendly energy sources like solar panels, natural light for lighting, and natural ventilation and shading. #BeOpenDESIGN Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini known for his floating architecture concepts has imagined a turtle-shaped floating city that he describes as a “terayacht.” Appropriately named Pangeos after the prehistoric supercontinent of Pangea, the incredible yacht concept can accommodate up to 60,000 people at sea and features multiple commercial and entertainment spaces including hotels, shopping centres, casinos, and even parks. Pangeos will also have ship and aircraft ports enabling guests to come and go as they please, even while the city is at sea. While the watercraft would be equipped with nine electric engines, rooftop solar panels will provide the energy needs of the floating city.
