Back in 2019, I flew to Hong Kong and interviewed many of the people on the frontlines fighting for democratic freedoms. Now, many of them are behind bars. Legal scholar Benny Tai was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison. Former lawmaker Longhair (Leung Kwok-hung) was sentenced to nearly 7 years. Former Civic Party leader Alvin Yeung was given a 5 year term. Cardinal Zen was arrested and fined, but thankfully was released on bail. In 2019, they told me their fears for the future of Hong Kong.
