PHP-Zilla Defeated, Systems Back Online Good morning folks! Further to our message last night, our Tech team has worked through the night and we're pleased to announce that our systems are back online. Support tickets can be raised at your leisure and our gallery is available again. Thanks for your patience while the issue was resolved!

Kaiju-Level Internet Security Issues Hey folks! You may have heard about the critical security flaw that has been recently discovered in PHP, leading to some of your favourite websites being taken down out of caution. Here's the good news: our website is staying up! However, we are not completely unscathed - here's what is affected. Our ticket system will be out of action, meaning you cannot raise support tickets via the web interface. You can still email us at the usual addresses, but our options to respond will be limited, so you may be waiting longer for a reply - thank you for bearing with us if you send any queries our way! Our gallery system will also be down, so you'll be unable to search your favourite photos from our previous events. As mentioned, our website will still be available (except the gallery) and our registration and event systems will still be operational. Our Tech team is hard at work sourcing and deploying patches to solve the issue but as this vulnerability is so new, we cannot give an estimate when service will be restored. We'll let you all know once things are back to normal.

Recruiting Now: Con Ops Crew Hey friends! Our Con Ops team is one of the main ways that Scotiacon interacts with attendees at our events. This passionate bunch work hard to answer attendee queries and resolve problems quickly, efficiently, and with a smile on their face. And they need your help! Scotiacon has grown so much since we moved to the Crowne Plaza in 2022 and we have even bigger plans ahead of us! So we need to make sure that our Con Ops team is ready to cope with more attendees, spread over more and bigger venues. That's why we're opening for new Con Ops crew members. If you've got customer service experience, if you're a problem solver, or if you just like to help those who need a hand, we want to hear from you! Sign Up For Our Dance Events! Hi folks! Applications are now open for the two dance events in 2027, our Dance Competition and freestyle knockout dance battle, Beatdrop Beatdown! The Dance Competition is a fursuit-only event and we're hoping to run a group competition alongside the solo event again in 2027. In contrast, Beatdrop Beatdown offers both a fursuit and non-fursuit bracket. Now Recruiting: Creative Artists! Hello everybody! The Creative team have an opening for an artist to join the team ahead of Scotiacon 2027. We're looking for a driven artist with a focus on graphic design, signage, and smaller assets. If that sounds like something that might suit you, read on to find out more! The role won't be limited to purely these types of work and will offer opportunities for more illustrative projects, but we are looking for folks who have experience in them and who find enjoyment in producing these forms of artwork. If you are interested, send an email to creative@scotiacon.org.uk with your portfolio and tell us why you'd be interested in joining the team. Logos, signage, modular assets, and typography are all examples of work we would love to see from you! Applications close on October 23rd.

Event Submissions - What’s Next? Hi folks! Now that event and DJ set submissions have closed, we wanted to give everyone who sent us a proposal an idea of what happens next. First of all, thank you! We’ve had a fantastic response and we’re really looking forward to seeing what we can bring together for next year’s programme. Our Events Team is now reviewing the proposals and working out what we can accommodate within the 2027 programme. We may get in touch if we need some more information or want to discuss something you’ve proposed, so keep an eye on your inbox, but don’t worry if you don’t hear from us straight away. Everyone who sent a pitch via our events system will receive an email letting them know the outcome. We’re aiming to have all the outcomes delivered by December and sooner if we can, although we’ll keep you updated if that changes. As always, we’ll try to accommodate as many of your ideas as we can. Proposals are now locked and can no longer be edited. If you need to correct or change anything in your submission, please email the Events Team at events@scotiacon.org.uk and we’ll help you update it. Recruiting Now: Deputy Head of Con Ops Hi Folks! As Scotiacon continues to grow our team needs to keep pace to make sure we deliver a great experience to our attendees. One of the important ways in which we interact with attendees is through our Con Ops team and we're looking to recruit a new deputy to help keep things running smoothly. This role will help to organise the team, as well as helping to resolve attendee queries onsite in Glasgow, while also serving as a point of escalation. Do you have customer service experience? Are you a natural problem solver? Can you keep calm under pressure? We'd like to hear from you! Music and Our Community Hi friends! We believe that music has the power to unite us and that the way it is used matters. This is never more true than in our community where we value inclusivity and enjoy going crazy on the dance floor. What we choose to listen and dance to says a lot about who we are, in so many ways. One of the tracks we've enjoyed dancing to at Scotiacon over the past few years has been "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers, so we were disappointed to see the recent comments made by the band about the transgender community and we've heard that disappointment reflected by many of you. As we said, how music is used matters, so we've taken the decision that, from now on, we will remove The Proclaimers from all our convention playlists and, while we are not vetting anybody's playlists, we are asking our DJs not to play any tracks from the band at Scotiacon as well. The wellbeing of our community is always our priority and we hope you'll support us in this decision. Scotiacon is for everybody and we can't wait to welcome you all back to Glasgow in February for our biggest celebration of the furry community yet.

Registration Update! Hello everyone! A quick update on registration for you all. Our team has powered through the residential registrations and expect to issue the final payment requests this weekend. This means that payment requests for non-residential registrations will start to emerge in the next few days. This is much quicker than we expected and we appreciate that some non-residential attendees may not be prepared for a payment request as early as this. If you cannot make the payment deadline on a non-residential registration but could make the payment later, here's what you need to do. After your payment deadline lapses and when you are ready to pay, email our friendly Registration team and ask for your registration to be reactivated. You'll then be able to pay your registration as normal. The only condition is that you must do this before Registration closes later this year. We'll give you as much warning as possible before we close registration, via all our usual channels. In the meantime, if you have any questions about your registration, you can email the team at registration@scotiacon.org.uk

If you're great with people and enjoy organising and planning, read on to learn more and find out how to apply! Here's what you'll be doing with the Events team: - Vetting and curating event proposals - Helping construct our schedule - Liaising with event runners before and at our event - Coordinating events at con and solving issues - Managing our ticket system to log requests & decisions We're a diverse team, but we'd like volunteers to show the following: - Strong organisational skills and attention to detail - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - The ability to manage multiple tasks and keep calm under pressure - Motivation to create an amazing attendee experience If you'd like to join the Events team and help us put on a party of gigantic proportions this year, send an email to us at events.recruitment@dept.scotiacon.org.uk to apply.
