Q: You were born in Japan, debuted in Korea, and now perform all over the world. Do you think there is a special synergy that comes from being in a group with members from different cultural backgrounds? Ni-ki: Absolutely. Whenever we're in Japan, I feel a stronger sense of responsibility to support the members more actively. When we're in places like the United States or Europe, Jay and Jake naturally take the lead because they're fluent in English. In that sense, I think our team has great teamwork and no real weak spots. - Q: One final question. What does originality mean to you? Ni-ki: An image that cannot be replaced. For example, even with Cartier, which we worked with today, when you hear the name Cartier, a specific feeling or product immediately comes to mind. I think it's the same for artists. If people think of ENHYPEN and instantly picture a certain compelling image or charm, then that's what our originality is. It is the unique identity that belongs only to us. - 🔗esquirekorea.co.kr/article/1904742 CARTIER PRINCES WONKI #WONKIforESQUIRE #CartierxENHYPEN #JUNGWON #NI_KI @ENHYPEN_members @ENHYPEN © AsiaEnhypen ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚ / @enhypeninfoMY

Q: Do you have a personal routine for recovering your condition when performing on consecutive days or spending long periods on overseas tours? Ni-ki: We always travel with a conditioning team during tours. The other members often receive help from them, but I usually only go when I really need it. Maybe it's because I'm still the youngest. (laughs) The energy I gain from touring is so great that I barely even notice when I'm tired while the tour is happening. - Q: Jungwon recently traveled to Iceland on his own time. Is there anywhere you'd like to visit? Ni-ki: I'd love to travel around Europe. As I mentioned earlier, I've been very interested in fashion lately, and most iconic fashion brands originate from Europe. I think it would be fun just to walk around taking photos on the streets, even without any specific plans. If possible, I'd also like to make some local friends. - Q: As a dancer, you have a deep understanding of performance. What do you consider most important on stage? Ni-ki: The subtle and detailed aspects. Even when it's the exact same choreography, the energy you feel from the audience and the energy you project on stage are completely different. To be honest, when it comes to choreography, I always want to push the details even further. It's similar to recording vocals. If the pitch or rhythm isn't right, you'll repeat it dozens of times until it is. I feel the same way about performance.

Q: It's already been seven years since your debut. During that time, many younger artists have debuted, including several Japanese members who debuted as K-pop idols. Has becoming a senior artist changed your mindset in any way? Ni-ki: There have been times when I thought about how I want to become a senior that younger artists can be proud of. There's nothing better than hearing someone say, "He's really cool," even from another guy's perspective. To become that kind of person, I believe I need to keep working hard and continue developing my skills in many different areas. - Q: What does a "cool senior" look like to you? Ni-ki: It's a little difficult to explain in words, but there's a certain aura you can feel the moment you see someone. It might be a facial expression or gesture that briefly appears on stage, or even the way they dress in everyday life. Once you've built up a certain level of skill and experience, I think it's important to think about how you present yourself to the public and develop your personal brand. That eventually becomes your unique charm and competitive edge. - Q: I watched the behind-the-scenes footage from ENHYPEN's Seoul concert in early May. In the past, it seemed like ENHYPEN focused heavily on perfectly synchronized choreography, but this time it was striking to see how freely you all enjoyed the stage. Ni-ki: That's actually exactly what we intended. When we first debuted, we were obsessed with perfect synchronization, but it also created a lot of stress. With synchronized choreography, even the slightest mistake can noticeably lower the overall quality of the performance. It also makes it harder for each member's individual charm to shine through. As we continued promoting, especially during tours, we kept talking about loosening up and having more fun on stage. Thanks to that, I think we were able to put on performances that we ourselves were satisfied with during this tour. ENGENEs noticed that change and responded enthusiastically, which is why I think the concerts ended so successfully.

Q: If you could go back to that time, is there any moment you'd want to change? Ni-ki: No. Even if I was inexperienced and awkward, the person I am today exists because of who I was back then. I don't think I'd necessarily do any better if I went back. I want to respect that entire process for what it was. - Q: What kind of person do you aspire to be? Ni-ki: If we're talking about something other than music, fashion models are what inspire me the most these days. Whenever I have free time, I look through old fashion shows and editorials. If you think about it, a runway is also a kind of stage. Fashion models have to leave a powerful impression in a much shorter amount of time than performers who sing on stage, and I really admire that. Watching those kinds of performances often inspires me in my own work as well. - Q: Have you ever thought about walking on a runway yourself? At 186 cm, you certainly have the physical attributes for it. Ni-ki: I don't know if that day will ever come, but if the opportunity did come, I would gladly accept it. It's actually one of my wishes. - Q: Are you confident in your runway walk? Ni-ki: I've never properly learned how to do it, but if I practiced hard, I think I could manage. After all, I've been dancing for nearly twenty years, so I'm confident when it comes to using my body. I also tend to pick things up pretty quickly.

Q: Your version feels quite different from the original. What side of yourself did you want to show through it? Ni-ki: Fans tend to really like my lower voice, so I wanted the cover to fully showcase that charm. At the same time, I also wanted to let them hear my falsetto, which I do not get many opportunities to show. Rather than presenting a completely new image, I focused on showing more of the side of me that ENGENEs already enjoy seeing. - Q: Are you satisfied with the final result? Ni-ki: Of course. (laughs) I had a lot of thoughts while recording it, and the film turned out beautifully as well, so I was really happy with it. - Q: While talking with you today, I couldn't help noticing that you seem much more masculine than before. You feel different from when I met you in 2022 and 2024. Ni-ki: Personally, I don't really notice it, but people around me say that a lot. Maybe it's because I've gotten taller. - Q: What do you think when you look at old photos or videos of yourself? Ni-ki: Compared to now, I think I looked less relaxed and less confident. To be fair, I was much younger back then.

Q: Do you have any personal tips for styling jewelry? Ni-ki: I usually choose my jewelry last. I consider what I'm wearing that day first. Even with a simple outfit, the overall vibe can change depending on how you match rings or necklaces. Wearing several rings on one hand, like I'm doing today, is also one of my favorite styling choices. Q: In a previous interview with Esquire, you said that seeing Michael Jackson made you want to become an artist. I heard you recently attended an advance screening of the film Michael. What were your thoughts on it? Ni-ki: I was really looking forward to it from the moment the teaser was released. Since I've often talked about being a fan of Michael Jackson in interviews, I was grateful to be invited to the screening. A little TMI, but I cried about five times while watching the movie. - Q: What scenes moved you that much? Ni-ki: Since there are probably people who haven't seen the movie yet, I'll avoid spoilers. But I got emotional when the songs from Michael Jackson's Jackson 5 days started playing. They're songs I've been listening to on cassette tapes since I was three years old, so hearing them made me feel like I'd gone back in time. - Q: As far as I know, you were the only member who attended the screening. Did you talk about the movie with the other members afterward? Ni-ki: I'm the type who likes to reflect on things by myself, so I didn't really talk about it much with others. But if someone asks me how it was, I'm always happy to tell them. That it was amazing. (laughs) - Q: The response to your cover of "LIMBO," which was released in April, has been very positive. What made you decide to cover that song? Ni-ki: We performed at Coachella last year, and Keshi, who originally sang "LIMBO," was also part of the lineup. I even got to watch some of his rehearsals. I'd already liked the song before, but seeing him in person made me appreciate it even more. While preparing for Coachella, I was in the United States for about two weeks, and I listened to that song every day. Eventually, whenever I thought of America, "LIMBO" came to mind. I wanted to share those feelings and memories with ENGENEs, which is why I decided to cover it.

[ #ENHYPEN ARTICLE INFO UPDATE 260622 ] The Method ENHYPEN's Ni-ki Chose to Get Closer to His Fans Ni-ki, who says he enjoys wearing accessories in his daily life, shared that he pays close attention to every facial expression and movement on stage. Now that he feels truly free to enjoy performing, he wants to show ENGENEs his most honest and genuine self. - Q: The Clash de Cartier pendant and rings you're wearing suit you well. Ni-ki: Thank you. Out of all our members, I'm probably the one who's most interested in accessories. I wear quite a lot of them even in everyday life. I like the way they sway and the sound they make whenever I move. Lately, I've also been drawn to bolder designs.

Q: If you had to create an "Introduction to ENHYPEN" playlist, which songs would you choose? Jungwon: Oh, that sounds fun. First, I would definitely recommend Bite Me. Then I would suggest Still Monster. If you like those two, I think you would also enjoy 멀어 (Blind). Personally, I really love Big Girls Don't Cry, so I would strongly recommend that one as well. - Q: "Big Girls Don't Cry" is actually new to me. Jungwon: That is probably because it is a B-side from our most recent album. It is not the title track. But honestly, I loved it from the moment I heard the demo. I would not be exaggerating if I said it ranks among my top five favorite ENHYPEN songs of all time. The audience response when we performed it on stage was incredible too. I highly recommend it. - 🔗esquirekorea.co.kr/article/1904745 CARTIER PRINCES WONKI #WONKIforESQUIRE #CartierxENHYPEN #JUNGWON #NI_KI @ENHYPEN_members @ENHYPEN © AsiaEnhypen ᡣ𐭩 .𖥔˚ / @enhypeninfoMY

Q: When you spoke with Esquire in 2022, ENHYPEN was just about to embark on its first world tour. What is different about Jungwon then and Jungwon now? Jungwon: Wow, time really flies. While touring, I have spent a lot of time thinking about my sense of responsibility toward the people who support us. I have experienced firsthand that there are so many people in this world who cheer for us and care about us even more than we do ourselves. Whenever I start feeling lazy, thinking about those people immediately wakes me up and motivates me again. - Q: Last year, you even performed at Coachella. Looking ahead, where and how would you like to showcase ENHYPEN's unique charm next? Jungwon: I have heard that dreams should be as big as possible. So if I am going to dream big, I hope the day comes when we can perform at the Super Bowl. Honestly, it feels almost unimaginable for a Korean artist to perform there. The chances seem incredibly slim. But unexpected things happen in life sometimes. If we keep working hard, maybe we can squeeze through that tiny needle's eye too. (laughs) - Q: What about musically? Jungwon: We are currently preparing our next album, so I cannot share many details yet. But we always strive to show new and challenging sides of ourselves. Because of the perception people have of idols, I think there are still many listeners who have never really explored our music. Personally, I have a lot of confidence in our songs. So I hope people will give them a chance and listen at least once.

Q: It sounds like you're the type who carefully reviews and analyzes performances afterward. Jungwon: All of the members do it, and we also gather with our performance director and the A&R team that oversees our music. We always exchange feedback. We talk honestly about what worked well and what could have been better. The more we go through that process, the better the quality of the show becomes. It is especially important during "three-show" weekends like our recent Seoul concerts, where we perform on three consecutive days. - Q: Doesn't performing on consecutive days become physically exhausting? Jungwon: It depends on the setlist. This tour's setlist is not particularly demanding physically. Still, after performing for three days straight, I did find it a little difficult to get out of bed on the final morning. Interestingly, once I step on stage, I actually feel energized. I hate having regrets, so I always try to give my best in every moment so that I have nothing to look back on with regret. - Q: I heard this tour will also take you to South America. Jungwon: From what I have heard from senior artists, concerts in South America have an incredibly passionate atmosphere. The audience reactions are very intense too. Because of that, not only me but all the members are really excited. It is our first time touring there, and I have also heard that the venues are quite large.

Q: Let's talk about ENHYPEN's world tour, "Blood Saga," which recently began. The first concert took place in Seoul on May 1. In the behind-the-scenes videos, you seemed to place a lot of importance on the opening show. Jungwon: That's right. There is a saying that getting started is half the battle. Maybe it is just my personal superstition, but if I start off on the wrong foot, I keep feeling anxious afterward. It makes me feel like I might repeat the same mistake in the same part again. Also, with world tours, the overall quality naturally improves as more shows are performed. The members and staff gain experience and become more skilled through repetition. So this time, I prepared with the mindset of, "Let's perform as if we've already completed a full round of the tour." I worked really hard. - Q: Specifically, what aspects were you trying to improve? Jungwon: Many people come to concerts because they want to feel the energy of the live atmosphere. So I spent a lot of time thinking about how to raise that excitement. In the past, I thought that if I was having fun, the audience would naturally have fun too. But after monitoring our performances, I realized that is not always the case. I worked on maintaining high energy while also staying aware enough to communicate with the fans rather than getting swept up in the excitement. Musically, we also created special concert arrangements. We refined the transitions so that the music would flow naturally from one song to the next without interruptions. I was really happy that ENGENEs noticed those details and responded with such enthusiastic support.

Q: No wonder you were chosen as an ambassador for the Seoul International Garden Show. Jungwon: I think I owe that to my parents for naming me Jungwon, which also means "garden." (laughs) When I first heard I had been selected as an ambassador, I thought it was really amusing. I remember thinking, "So my name can lead to opportunities like this too." I went to Seoul Forest for the poster shoot, and that was when I first realized just how huge it is. I'd love to visit again on my own when I have some free time. - Q: Do you only walk? Running is very popular these days. Jungwon: I run from time to time too. I even went running several times when I was in Japan. But when I am walking, I focus on walking, and when I am running, I focus on running. - Q: How far do you usually run? Jungwon: It depends on how I am feeling that day, but usually around 5 to 6 kilometers. - Q: May I ask about your pace? Jungwon: There are so many amazing runners these days that it is a little embarrassing to say, but I think I average somewhere between 4 minutes 30 seconds and 5 minutes per kilometer. I definitely slow down when the weather is very hot.

Q: Did you get to see the aurora you had dreamed of? Jungwon: I did see it. (laughs) But it was different from what I had imagined. In photos and videos, the colors look vivid and beautiful, with greens and purples. But when I saw it in person, it looked closer to a faint whitish color. Apparently, there is something called the "Kp index" when observing auroras, and if the number is low, that is how they appear. - Q: I know you enjoy walking. Did you spend time walking around Iceland too? Jungwon: Iceland was really cold, and it was very windy. In Korea, I sometimes walk for hours, but in Iceland, I mostly just took short walks around the area near our accommodation. - Q: Why do you enjoy walking so much? Jungwon: I organize my thoughts while I walk. There have been times when I walked for three hours straight. On average, I usually walk for about an hour to an hour and a half whenever I go out. I tend to change my routes often, but I especially like walking along the Han River. When I walk there, I get to see all kinds of people. There are families out walking with their young children, college students exercising together, and even couples arguing. I enjoy seeing those real slices of life. Oh, and one time I even ran into people from my company by chance. Another thing I love is seeing how the parks change with each season.

Q: What made you choose it as your first watch? Jungwon: I do not know much about the history or technical side of watches, but the design immediately caught my eye. It gave me that feeling of, "I have to buy this." It is not often that I become instantly drawn to something, whether it is an object or an opportunity, but when I do, I am the type who has to go for it. (laughs) Q: How was today's photoshoot? Jungwon: I actually liked it because it turned out differently from what I expected. I thought it would have a neat and classic atmosphere, but the lighting, styling, and outfits all felt very youthful and trendy. Through this shoot, I realized that Cartier can also be expressed in this kind of mood. - Q: What was it like doing the shoot with Ni-ki? Jungwon: It was not our first time doing a photoshoot together. We did one about two years ago. But it was fun because it had been a while since the two of us, the "maknaez" (youngest members), worked together on a shoot. I'm only a year older than Ni-ki. Afterward, when we looked at the results, we even said to each other, "Don't you think our visuals match really well together?" - Q: I watched your Iceland vlog. After seeing it, I wanted to visit too. What made you decide to go all the way to Iceland? Jungwon: It was a family trip. We joined a package tour. Originally, we considered going to Hokkaido in Japan, but seeing the Northern Lights has always been on my bucket list, so we boldly decided on Iceland.

[ #ENHYPEN ARTICLE INFO UPDATE 260622 ] ENHYPEN Jungwon on Why He’s Looking Forward to This World Tour Jungwon, the "youngest leader" who clears his mind through long walks, carries one big dream. Looking into his eyes as he talks about how dreams should be as big as possible, you can feel how sincere he is. - Q: You had a photoshoot with Cartier today. What kind of jewelry or accessories do you usually wear? Jungwon: ENGENEs probably already know this, but when we first debuted, I hardly ever wore things like watches or rings. As time went on, I gradually became interested in them. Coincidentally, the first watch I ever bought was a Cartier Tank. So when I heard about today's photoshoot, I thought, "What a funny coincidence," and found it fascinating.
