Gender reassignment does NOT solve mental health issues Kaltiala, Holttinen, & Tuisku (2023) This study, based on a comprehensive review of records from 3,665 people seeking gender identity services in Finland from 1996 to 2019, revealed that individuals with gender dysphoria had more prevalent psychiatric needs than the general population, persisting even after gender-reassignment interventions. Nearly three times as many people with gender dysphoria did not proceed to gender-reassignment procedures if they had obtained serious psychiatric treatment prior to their first appointment with gender-identity services. The proportion of people needing serious psychiatric treatment increased more (from 15.3% to 52.9%) among people with gender dysphoria who received cross-sex hormones or gender-reassignment surgeries than among those who did not (from 47.0% to 66.7%)
