بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم ▪️ Fasting the day of Āshūra and beginning one's menstruation cycle▪️ Answered By Ash-Shaykh Abul-Yamān Adnān Ibn Hussain Al-Masqarī - May Allāh Preserve Him 📩 Question: A woman fasted the day of Āshūrā however, during the day her menstruation came; can she make up the day? ✏️ Answer: There is nothing upon her to make up because it's a recommended fast (not obligatory), and she will be rewarded for her intention, her aim, and her eagerness for the good. Whoever intends to do a good deed and does not do it, a good deed is recorded for them, and if they do the good deed, then ten good deeds are recorded for them. بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم ▪️Fasting Āshūra on its own▪️ Answered By Ash-Shaykh Abul-Yamān Adnān Ibn Hussain Al-Masqarī - May Allāh Preserve Him 📩 Question: If one fasts the day of Āshūra by itself, has he imitated the disbelievers? ✏️ Answer: No, fasting the day of Āshūra (on its own) is legislated, but it is better to fast the day before it as well. As for fasting the day before it and the day after it, it is weak.  However, some of the scholars, such as Shaykh Bin Bāz, Al-'Abād, Al-Uthaymīn, deemed it to be recommended that if he didn't fast the day before the tenth, he could fast the tenth along with the day after it in order for the opposing (of the kuffār) to take place. This is because the fast of the ninth day missed him.  As for this being obligatory, no, it's not. The one who strives to fast the day before it and the day after it, acting upon the weak hadīth has opposed the sunnah. بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم ▪️Is Fasting Āshūrā an obligation?▪️ Answered By Ash-Shaykh Abul-Yamān Adnān Ibn Hussain Al-Masqarī - May Allāh Preserve Him 📩 Question: Is fasting the day of Āshūra (10th of Muharram) obligatory? ✏️ Answer: No, it is recommended; rather, it's highly recommended due to what it contains of great virtue and abundant good, and it is an expiation of the past year. It is also recommended to fast tāsū'a (9th of Muharram) along with the 10th, as it's the sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ.  Tomorrow is the 9th day, and after it is the 10th, so no one should be stingy to himself. He should remind his family, neighbours, relatives, and maternal and paternal uncles. How many people are oblivious regarding fasting this day even though they know the hadīth and that it's virtuous, but they forget? Some people do not even know that they are in the month of Muharram; all they know is August and October. Contact your brother's and uncles; whoever points to goodness will have the reward of its doer. Also, it's from imitating the Jews, and some fabricated narrations have come in this regard, so it's not appropriate for the Muslim to become deceived by them or act upon them.
