B – Brown-Séquard syndrome Brown-Sequard syndrome describes the features of unilateral transection (hemisection) of the spinal cord. Affected patients suffer ipsilateral loss of motor function with impaired joint position and vibration sense (dorsal column dysfunction). There is also a contralateral sensory loss for pain and temperature. Brown-Sequard syndrome has the best prognosis of all spinal cord lesions. Charles-Edouard Brown-Sequard, British neurologist (1817–1894).
