M+ Global Market Update – 11Aug25 Market Sentiment To Stay Positive US: Wall Street closed the week on a high note despite President Trump’s recent announcement of a 100% semiconductor tariff, a 50% tariff on India, and mixed earnings results from Technology players. However, we expect the market sentiment to stay positive due to Apple’s USD100bn investment pledge, which may spark trading opportunities within the US Banking, Construction and Technology sectors. This week, traders will monitor key inflation data such as CPI and PPI. In the commodities market, Brent oil retreated further towards USD65/bbl, while Gold and CPO remained stable at USD3,939/oz and RM4,255/MT, respectively. MY: With Wall Street’s positive lead, we expect buying interest to spill over into the local bourse. Moreover, we favour ITMAX for its (i) steady stream of project wins in Johor, (ii) potential to replicate Johor’s success in Penang, as well as (iii) strong recurring revenue base, typically spanning over 5–10 years. Meanwhile, INARI and FRONTKN remain in focus as we view these counters as key proxies to Apple’s additional USD100bn manufacturing investment and the recent announcement of a 100% tariff on semiconductors. For the utilities sector, we believe that (i) Tenaga’s CapEx rollout extending until year-end, and (ii) the government’s strong push towards renewable energy initiatives such as NETR, CRESS, and LSS, warrant continued investor attention on counters like MNHLDG, UUE, KJTS, and SCGBHD. M+ Global Market Update – 08Aug25 Tariff Tensions Persisted Despite Apple-Fuelled Rally US: Wall Street ended mixed as tech resilience, led by Apple’s USD100bn investment pledge, offset broader market concerns. Persisting trade tensions, including President Trump’s 100% semiconductor tariff and a 50% tariff on India, have reignited fears of a global slowdown, which may contribute to a more cautious environment. Meanwhile, softer jobless data also lifted September rate cut odds to 94%. In the commodities market, both Brent crude and gold retreated further toward USD66.4/bbl and RM4,240/MT respectively, while gold traded higher at USD3,396.4/oz. MY: We expect the local bourse to take a breather after 3-day winning streak ahead of the weekend. However, we remain positive on selected Technology stocks despite concerns over President Trump’s announcement of a 100% tariff on semiconductors as counters like INARI and FRONTKN may stand to benefit from Apple’s additional USD100bn investment in US manufacturing. Besides, with the government’s strong push for renewable energy, underpinned by initiatives such as the NETR, CRESS, and LSS projects, traders may continue to look for trading ideas in solar-related counters, including SLVEST, SUNLOGY, and NORTHERN.
