| 2 | Eyre Crowe
1824 - 1910
#Crowe
This Victorian painter documented everyday life with remarkable honesty, capturing street scenes, markets, and the harsh realities of his time. He traveled to America in the 1850s and created powerful images of slave auctions that shocked viewers back in Britain. His work combined careful observation with social commentary, showing ordinary people going about their daily lives in a straightforward, documentary style.

| 3 | Hey everyone,
As Private Art: Collections grows, there is need to make some changes to ensure the project can continue to scale and expand safely.
One of those changes is moving away from using original paintings as in-game content. Even though I deliberately chose works that are in the public domain, modern platform policies and legal requirements often expect developers to have clear rights to all content used in their products. In practice, this means that even if Caravaggio himself isn't going to send us a copyright strike, there are still compliance and platform-related issues that need to be addressed.
Over time, I'll be taking the necessary steps to transition the game in a way that supports its long-term future while preserving the spirit that made it special in the first place.
I know many of you joined because of your love for great art, and I hope you'll enjoy the direction we're taking next.
Thank you for being part of this journey | 927 |

| 5 | Carel Fabritius
"Abraham De Potter"
1649
#Fabritius
This portrait was commissioned by a successful wine merchant in Delft who wanted a formal record of his appearance and status. The painting was created when the subject was likely establishing himself in the community's business circles, during a time when Dutch merchants were growing increasingly wealthy from trade. The work came early in the painter's career, when he was just beginning to develop his distinctive approach to light and shadow while still working in a style influenced by his training in Amsterdam.

| 6 | Petrus Christus
"The Lamentation over the Dead Christ"
1460
#Christus
This devotional panel was likely commissioned by a wealthy Bruges patron for private meditation, created during the final years of Christus's career when he had fully absorbed and refined the techniques pioneered by his predecessor Jan van Eyck. The artist painted this work during a period of intense religious fervor in the Burgundian Netherlands, where such intimate representations of Christ's suffering served the spiritual practices of the urban merchant class. Christus produced this lamentation amid his mature phase as Bruges' leading painter, working in a city whose economic prominence as a trading hub enabled sophisticated artistic patronage focused on deeply emotional, closely-observed religious scenes.

"Let the artists die on stage." — Tadeusz Kantor
Polish avant-garde theater director, painter, and theorist who founded the experimental Cricot 2 Theatre in Kraków in 1955. Kantor developed the revolutionary concept of the 'Theatre of Death,' blending visual art with performance and often appearing in his own productions as a silent conductor of action. His most acclaimed work, 'The Dead Class' (1975), featured elderly actors confronting mannequins of their younger selves in a haunting meditation on memory and mortality. He profoundly influenced European experimental theater while remaining rooted in Polish cultural trauma and history. | 1 622 |

| 17 | Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema
"Sculptors in Ancient Rome"
1877
#AlmaTadema
The painting was commissioned by Sir John Aird, a wealthy British civil engineering contractor who was among Alma-Tadema's most important patrons during the 1870s. This work emerged during a particularly prolific period following the artist's move to London in 1870, when he had established himself as the preeminent painter of classical antiquity in Victorian Britain. Alma-Tadema's inspiration drew directly from his extensive archaeological research and his personal visits to Pompeii and Rome, where he meticulously studied and photographed ancient workshops, tools, and sculptural fragments that he would later incorporate into his historically accurate reconstructions of Roman artistic life.
