Someone asked me today why I am doing this. I gave them an answer. But even as I said it, I knew it was not the real one. I spent an hour today trying to find the actual answer. The honest one. The one underneath the one I tell people. It is harder to find than I expected. But I think when you find it — really find it — that is the thing that keeps you going when everything else says stop. How does a machine actually learn something? Here is what I found out: Training is the process. And it works in 3 simple steps. Step 1: you show the machine thousands of examples. Like showing a child pictures of cats and dogs and telling them which is which. Step 2: the machine makes a guess. At the beginning it's almost always wrong. And that's okay. Step 3: it measures how wrong it was, adjusts itself, and tries again. Over and over. Millions of times. After enough repetitions the pattern locks in. The machine stops guessing and starts knowing. That final result after all that training is what we call a model. And that model is what sits inside tools like ChatGPT, Google Translate, or even your phone's face unlock. The crazy part? The machine doesn't memorize the examples. It learns the pattern underneath them. Just like you didn't memorize every street in Addis you learned how the city is structured. That's AI training. I used to think the goal was to find something that works and do it better. Today I learned that might be the wrong game entirely. There is a different question to ask. Not "how do I do this better?" Today I found out that AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning aren't the same thing. They're actually nested inside each other like Russian dolls. AI is the biggest. Machine Learning lives inside it. Deep Learning lives inside that. That one image made something click that I've been confused about for a long time. Which one do you think powers TikTok's feed?

I always thought being good at something was enough to build a business around it. Today I learned it is actually the trap. There is a name for it when a skilled person starts a business and spends all their time doing the skill instead of building the business itself. The business never grows.
