A common pattern throughout Pakistan’s history is seemingly unraveling before us. Ignoring the grievances of the Baloch has brought us to the state Balochistan is in today. Ignoring the grievances of the Pashtuns has given us the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa we have today. Now, it appears we are at another decisive moment—one that could define the Kashmir we have for the next 20 years.
In the video, JAAC leader Khwaja Mujtaba Banday states that we may have to begin armed resistance against Pakistan. He argues that if Pakistan chooses the law of the jungle and continues to massacre people at will, while the international community remains unable to restrain it, then people will have to devise means to defend themselves. He describes this as a right enshrined in religious and international law.
Historically, the Pakistani state and those who follow its narrative have repeatedly ignored popular movements and their calls for escalation. They have been underestimated time and again, and we have seen where that has led. Despite having multiple opportunities to contain an issue before it spreads, the state instead chooses to antagonise those grievances further.
If this is mishandled in the same manner, Pakistan may find itself facing yet another insurgency. In such a volatile world, where every country is trying to gain an inch over another, why does Pakistan continue to alienate its own citizens, ultimately leaving them vulnerable to influence from various opportunists?
Those who refuse to learn from history are destined to repeat it.
