I've been doing some thinking, and I've decided I don't want tampon-kind-of relationships anymore. You know the kind... The ones with strings attached. At first, they seem helpful. "Oh honey, I'd be happy to help." Three days later... "Remember that thing I did for you in 2019?" There it is. The string. Some people don't do favors. They make investments. And apparently, the return rate is 27% interest and lifelong guilt. I had a friend once who could turn a cup of coffee into a hostage negotiation. "I bought your coffee." Yes, Susan. It was $3.27. I didn't realize I'd entered a binding legal agreement. And don't even get me started on the people who give advice. Not because they care. Because they want visitation rights to your decision. The minute you do something different... "Well, if you would've listened to me..." Ma'am, I asked where you bought your air fryer. Not for a life coach. These days, I appreciate the rare people who do nice things and then... wait for it... go on with their lives. No scoreboard. No invoice. No emotional collections department. Just kindness. Imagine that. People who help because they want to help. People who care because they care. People who don't leave you feeling like you accidentally financed a couch after accepting a compliment. So yes... I've reached the stage of life where I'm looking for relationships with absolutely no strings attached. Because if I wanted that many strings in my life... I'd go to Walmart and buy a big box of tampons.
