Utility of these books ... Don't read cover to cover . Use these books to value addition to your basic notes. For example - Indian strategraphy by Rabindra Kumar... you can use it to draw maps of perticular supergroup or basin. You can also refer it for Indian examples in strategraphy and Economic geology. Similarly in Structural Geology by S K Ghosh ... Use it for some minute topics asked by UPSC in the past.It should not be your primary source...just use it for filling the gaps. Text book of geology by Mahapatra Or PK mukharji These two can be used for basic understanding if you are completely new to geology. the principals of petrology -Tyrrell ....this can be your foundation for all 3 petrology. In the same way Rutley will form base for mineralogy and mineral optics.
