The myth is mainly known as a story of love, gender, identity, and transformation. It also reflects the social expectations of the ancient world, particularly the belief that marriage required a male and a female partner. Modern readers often interpret Iphis’s story in different ways, especially because the myth focuses so strongly on the conflict between Iphis’s identity, her love for Ianthe, and the expectations placed on her by society.

After the transformation, Iphis was able to marry Ianthe. Their marriage was celebrated, and the couple became husband and wife. The transformation therefore resolves the central conflict of the myth and allows Iphis and Ianthe's relationship to continue.

As the wedding approached, Iphis became increasingly distressed. She loved Ianthe but felt that there was no possible way for them to be together. Telethusa, seeing her child’s suffering, prayed to the goddess Isis for help. Isis answered her prayer and performed a miracle, transforming Iphis from a girl into a young man.

As Iphis grew up, everyone believed that she was male. When she reached marriageable age, her father arranged for her to marry Ianthe, a young woman whom Iphis already loved. Ianthe also loved Iphis, but believed that she was going to marry a man. This created a conflict because Iphis knew that she was biologically female and believed that a marriage between two women was impossible in their society.

The myth of Iphis and Ianthe comes from the Roman poet Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Iphis was born in Crete to Ligdus and Telethusa. Ligdus had said that he could not afford to raise a daughter and ordered that, if the child were a girl, she should be abandoned. When Telethusa gave birth to a daughter, she secretly decided to raise the child as a boy instead. She named her Iphis, a name that could be used for either gender, and kept her true identity hidden.

Lando and Lando fans have been through absolute hell on social the last two years.

Everything Lando said was twisted and taken out of context, if Lando had a good race it was ignored if Lando made the smallest of errors it was blown up out of proportion and made into a massive deal and why he is a terrible driver.

The whole world was jumping on the hate bandwagon. Tweets that weren’t even remotely true would get 50k+ likes hating on Lando.

Fake narratives were constantly being made. Anyone could make up whatever the hell they liked about Lando and as long as it was negative people would believe it.

We had to deal with boos and worst of all - constant death threats.

Now the very people who had no problem jumping on that, are complaining about how Twitter isn’t fun anymore the moment their driver receives a fraction of what Lando was put through for two years.

I wouldn’t wish what we went through on my worst enemy. All I can say is I hope these people realise the unnecessary hate they contributed towards, now that they have experienced a small portion of what it’s like to be on the receiving end.
