Ramanujan’s Formula for π
Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887–1920) was an Indian mathematician who, despite having almost no formal training in pure mathematics, made groundbreaking contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. His remarkable series for π, published in 1914, stunned the mathematical world for its extraordinary speed of convergence and depth of insight.
Why This Formula is Remarkable:
• Each term of the series adds approximately 8 correct decimal digits of accuracy to π
• It became one of the fastest known methods for computing π in the early 20th century
• It was later rigorously proven using advanced concepts in modular forms and complex analysis
• It laid foundations for modern high-precision π algorithms used in computational mathematics
Ramanujan’s work continues to inspire mathematicians worldwide, reminding us that brilliance is not limited by circumstance but driven by vision, curiosity, and an extraordinary
