“And now within BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Eurasian Economic Council, the CIS, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, and our relationships with ASEAN and the Gulf States Council, most of those payments and settlements are done not in dollars.
Ninety-seven per cent of all our international trade is done in international currencies, in yuan, in UAE currencies. There are lots of options to ensure flexibility and to prevent the dollar, which is formally still the world’s main reserve currency, from being used for blackmail and oppression.”
| 2 |  🇮🇳🌍 On This Day, 7 September 1946, as India moved closer to independence, Jawaharlal Nehru outlined a foreign-policy vision rooted in independent judgement, peaceful cooperation and strategic autonomy.
India, he made clear, would not become part of one power bloc against another. It would maintain friendly relations with all, while making decisions based on its own national interests.
This laid the foundation for India’s Non-Alignment policy — freedom to engage with the world without surrendering strategic independence.
During the Cold War, India emerged as a leading voice of the Non-Aligned Movement, working with countries across Asia, Africa and the developing world on decolonisation, sovereignty, disarmament, racial equality and international cooperation. | 23 |

Pranos Fusion has unveiled Pragya, an experimental tokamak that will help scientists study and control the extremely hot plasma needed for fusion energy.
The platform is expected to:
• Run around 3,000 experiments every year.
• Test high-temperature superconducting magnets and other fusion technologies.
• Generate long-term data on how plasma behaves and can be controlled.
• Train the next generation of Indian fusion scientists and engineers.
Pranos is also working towards PraniQ, a net-gain fusion reactor targeted for 2030.
The bigger significance? Fusion research in India is beginning to see a private-sector push, alongside the country’s established government-led programmes and its participation in projects such as ITER. | 27 |
| 4 |  🇮🇳📚 On This Day, 5 September 1888, philosopher, educationist and statesman Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in Andhra Pradesh.
From teaching philosophy in India to becoming a professor at Oxford, he helped take Indian philosophical thought to the world.
His public life included serving as:
👉 India’s Ambassador to the Soviet Union
👉 First Vice-President (1952–1962)
👉 Second President (1962–1967)
👉 Bharat Ratna recipient (1954).

| 8 |  🇮🇳 On this day, 2 September 1946, India’s Interim Government was sworn in, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, marking a crucial step in the country’s final transition from British rule to independence.
Formed under the Cabinet Mission Plan, the government was tasked with administering India while the Constituent Assembly worked towards framing a new Constitution.
Nehru summed up its larger purpose on the very day it took office:
“We enter on this enterprise in order to achieve our objective, that is, the complete and full independence of India.”
The Interim Government continued until 15 August 1947, when British India was partitioned and India and Pakistan became independent dominions.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar convened a high-level meeting on August 27 with MEA officials and India’s ambassadors in Kathmandu and Beijing to review the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.
288 Indians are reportedly missing as efforts continue to establish their safety and whereabouts.
India’s second relief flight has departed with 37.5 tonnes of HADR material, medicines and food packets.
The IAF has already deployed a C-130J carrying 10 tonnes of relief and medical supplies, with additional C-17 and C-130 aircraft and helicopters supporting relief, rescue and evacuation efforts.
Nepal has reported 349 bodies recovered so far, while hundreds remain missing across the affected Himalayan region.
India remains in close contact with Nepalese authorities and is mobilising resources to support the ongoing rescue and relief operations.

| 15 |  🇮🇳 On This Day: Remembering Mother Teresa, the Saint of Kolkata
On August 26, 1910, Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, better known as Mother Teresa, was born in Skopje. She would go on to make India her home and dedicate her life to serving the country’s poorest and most vulnerable.
She arrived in India in 1929 and spent several years teaching in Kolkata before leaving the convent in 1948 to work among people living in poverty. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which grew into a global humanitarian organisation.

| 17 |  🇮🇳 India Attracts $73 Billion in Foreign Currency in Just 11 Weeks
India has pulled in an impressive $73 billion in foreign currency in less than three months after the RBI launched a special scheme to attract overseas funds.
Of this, $65.4 billion came through FCNR(B) deposits, largely from Indians living abroad. In other words, billions of US dollars are flowing into Indian banks, strengthening the country’s foreign exchange reserves and external buffers.
The scale is striking. A similar RBI scheme in 2013 raised around $26 billion in about three months. This time, India has attracted nearly three times as much in just 11 weeks.
The response was so strong that the RBI is closing the scheme a month earlier than planned, having already met its target.
At a time when many economies are worried about capital flows and currency stability, $73 billion moving into India is a powerful sign of confidence in the country’s banking system and economic outlook. | 499 |

| 20 |  On This Day | 24 August 1908, India's Most Inspiring Anti-Colonial Revolutionary, Rajguru, Was Born
Shivram Hari Rajguru was born on 24 August 1908 in Maharashtra. He became one of the young revolutionaries who challenged British colonial rule in India, alongside Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev, two of the most prominent figures of India’s revolutionary movement.
The British colonial government arrested the three in connection with the Lahore Conspiracy Case, following the 1928 killing of a British police officer.
On 23 March 1931, all three were executed at Lahore Central Jail. Rajguru was just 22 years old.
The execution reflected the ruthless nature of colonial rule: a government that denied Indians political freedom responded to revolutionary resistance with imprisonment, trials and the gallows.
Fearing massive public unrest and outrage, the British executed them 11 hours before the scheduled time. They were denied a proper handover of their bodies, and a secret cremation was conducted.
He was only 22 when the British took his life, but they could not take away the courage with which he stood against an empire. | 65 |
