We often plan and act according to others’ expectations — family, friends, colleagues. For example, if relatives expect us to always lend a hand financially when trouble hits, we’ll give away our last penny to live up to the proud label of "selfless person." This happens because from early childhood we unconscious­ly internalize rules about how a person becomes good. These planted canons of "rightness" are a real obstacle to personal happiness and well-being. Develop a conscious filter that weeds out harmful, obstructive, and unhelpful expectations from others that don’t serve our best interests. Mindshift

7️⃣ Reasons Your Motivation Has Vanished If you struggle to reach your goals because enthusiasm keeps giving way to apathy, you’re dealing with a motivation issue. Not that there isn’t enough of it, but that your approach is off. Here are seven reasons that block you from getting what you want. 1. You push yourself too hard. This is the main one. Many people truly believe the secret to success lies in ultra-productivity, relentless effort, and ignoring rest. They squeeze every last drop of energy out of themselves and push themselves to the limit. Of course, living at that pace is unbearable—sooner or later the body will say, “Stop—enough,” and you’ll have little left to work with. Don’t aim to become a workhorse or a robot that never tires—pushing yourself too far just prolongs the recovery. 2. Your approach is off. Another drain is trying to stay motivated all the time, and when you wake up one day wanting to skip a workout or sleep in, you harshly criticize yourself. This is really a continuation of the previous point: the tension is mental, not physical. Understand that human nature includes ups and downs, and it’s okay to need rest. Don’t hesitate to step back a bit if you’re overwhelmed or tired. 3. You chase instant results. Why do many diets fail? Because people want fast wins: they go on a strict plan hoping to look stunning in a month, but real change takes longer. When the pressure mounts, they quit, hoping to try again later. Manage your expectations to align with reality—don’t push to reach the goal as fast as possible. Learn to enjoy the process; the journey itself should feel good. 4. You stopped growing. Another possibility is you’re stuck in your comfort zone and not developing there. To break free from this rut, ask yourself: “Am I growing right now? How else can I push my potential?” 5. Your ego is playing tricks. We often set ourselves seemingly impossible goals (lose weight fast, master a full split, etc.). These goals feel unattainable, but our ego (or laziness) pushes them because it senses that once you achieve them, there’s only self-praise and pastry ahead. To avoid this, break big goals into smaller steps and set realistic timelines. It’s a longer process, but it yields real results. 6. You neglect self-care. Inspiration and motivation run on energy, and if you’re exhausted, there’s nothing to draw from. The more you take care of yourself and do what you love, the more energy you accumulate. Remember: self-care is a prerequisite for success. 7. You compare yourself to others.
