1. Isotonic drinks for athletes (a) During physical activity, sweating can cause dehydration due to loss of water and salts such as sodium and potassium. (b) Athletes drink sports drinks which are isotonic (have the same water potential as body fluids). The isotonic drinks contain water, salts and glucose to replace the lost of water and salts. (c) It also maintains the content of body fluids and prevents dehydration. 2. Rehydrating drinks for diarrhoea patients (a) Dehydration due to loss of salts and water occurs during diarrhoea. (b) Frequent sips of rehydration drinks which contain water, salts and glucose help to replace the water and salts lost. 3. Saline solutions in the medical field (a) Saline solution is usually used as drips in the medical field. (b) The solution is isotonic to the blood plasma, which contains 0.85 g of sodium chloride per 100 ml. (c) Saline solution is also used to clean wounds, treat dehydration and dilute medicine. 4.Liposome in the field if medicine and cosmic industry (a) A liposome is a spherical vesicle made up of a phospholipid bilayer membrane which enclosed an aqueous solution.
