Painting of Napoleon in exile on Saint Helena Napoleon's exile to St. Helena encompasses the final six years of the deposed emperor's life, commencing with his second abdication[note 1] at the end of the Hundred Days, which had concluded with his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. Upon reaching Rochefort, Napoleon was unable to travel to the United States as he had wished. The British government had decided to imprison him and deport him to the island of Saint Helena, situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, with the intention of ensuring that he could no longer "disturb the peace of the world." Saturn was the primary Roman deity who presided over agriculture and the harvesting of crops. This is the reason that he was associated with the Greek god Cronus, who was also the god of harvest. He was associated with wealth, liberation, and time. He was the father of Ceres, Jupiter, Veritas and others. He was identified with the Greek titan Kronos, whose reign (often referred to as the Golden Age) was regarded as a time of abundance and peace. In December, the festival of Saturnalia, perhaps the most famous of all the Roman festivals, was held in his honour. The festival largely consisted of a public banquet, role reversals, private gift-giving and revelry. Saturn was the son of Terra, the primordial earth mother, and Caelus, the powerful sky god. As the god of agriculture, Saturn was commonly depicted with the scythe, a tool necessary for agriculture and harvesting but also a tool that is associated with death and evil omens in many cultures.
