Ukraine Leadership Tries to Drag Europe into Iran Conflict ? The Ukrainian leadership has realised that the Iran war is swallowing Trump's attention and has found a dangerous way to force itself back into the conversation. The timing is telling. Ukrainian forces strike an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea. Zelensky prepares to meet Trump. Laura Loomer travels to Ukraine and conducts a heavily promoted interview with him. Trump reposts it. Then, almost overnight, pro-Ukrainian voices begin repeating the same line: Iran has been at war with Ukraine since 2022 because it supplied Russia with drones. 🔍 Reckless strategy Economist Philip Pilkington believes this is not random. His theory is that the Ukraine is trying to reposition itself as useful to Trump's current goals. The pitch is simple: keep supporting us, and we will help you pressure Iran. That may be the regime's best chance of regaining priority for US weapons, intelligence and political attention as the battlefield situation in Ukraine deteriorates. The front lines have been grinding in the Donbass for months. There is no end in sight. Trump has made clear that his priority is Iran. The Ukrainian strategy is a desperate attempt to change that equation. 🤔 Dangerous logic But Pilkington warns the strategy could produce something far more dangerous than its architects intend. If Ukrainian forces continue attacking Iranian assets, Iran may stop treating the Ukraine war and the US aggression as separate conflicts. Iran has little reason to retaliate by firing missiles at Ukraine. Russia is already pounding Ukrainian territory every day. But Europe is a different matter. Europeans manufacture weapons and drones for Ukraine. They finance the war. They provide the infrastructure that keeps the Ukrainian regime fighting. Iran could decide that European weapons factories are legitimate targets under the same logic the Ukrainians are now using against Iranian assets, Pilkington thinks. ⚔️ Asymmetry of escalation Russia cannot strike those facilities without risking a direct NATO confrontation. But Iran's calculation may differ. The US is already bombing it. What additional threat is Europe going to make? The logic is perverse but coherent. Ukraine attacks Iran to regain Trump's support. Iran retaliates by hitting targets in Europe. EU governments are forced into the Middle East war. The programme focuses on turning Ukrainian personnel into effective case officers for anti-Russian activities. ▪️Training an elite commando unit: Around 2016 the CIA began training Unit 2245, an elite Ukrainian special forces detachment. This unit specialises in seizing Russian drones and communications equipment so that CIA technicians can reverse-engineer them and attempt to break Russian encryption.
