The table compares the proportion of females and males in terms of participation in cycling in 2012, broken down into five different age categories.
The shares of females who rode a bicycle were the highest in all age brackets, with the youngest (0–9) age group accounting for more than 52%, slightly higher than that of males, at 51.2%. 43.6% of females aged 10–19 rode a bike, which was nearly double the figure for their male counterparts, at 25.1%.
However, it is interesting to note that people aged 60+ were ranked third, with both men and women constituting nearly 20 and 15%, respectively. The proportion of women in the 20–39 age category was responsible for 18.2% compared to men, who accounted for 10.8%. Women were also more active than men in riding bicycles in the 40–59 age group.
Overall, the proportion of females riding a bike was higher than women in all age groups, with the 10–19 age group showing the biggest ratio. It also appears that the participation rate decreased with age, but the elderly group was more active compared to the 20–39 and 40–59 groups.
