Topic: At schools, computers, games and videos should be used instead of books. To what extent do you agree or disagree ? With the rapid development of technology, many people advocate for the need to use it in the education process. One way they see this practice be implemented is to use films, computers and games instead of books. Although I acknowledge potential benefits of using technology in schools, I believe that they may bring some disadvantages. There seem to be one major benefit of technology use in classrooms. Wide accessibility of different types of technologies may be one of the reasons why they have to be used more than books. As, today almost everyone has got a computer, through which, they can learn variety of things on a daily basis on some platforms such as YouTube where they can find educational videos. Moreover it is fact that the price of some books can be expensive. Buying physical copies of books can be a an extra financial burden for people as these types of books are oftentimes in a short supply. However, It does not mean that technologies are cheap. As, they can also sometimes be out of reach and costy. Not all families can afford them, especially the ones with low financial budget. Even if technologies are provided by the government, taxpayers will anyways have to pay for this very procedure. Thus, we are not ready to a complete transition from books to technologies, because of this, books have to be kept. In addition, effectiveness of books has always been proved in education. Distraction free nature of books may be handy for students to fully immerse in their studies. Although books can sometimes be seen as boring leading to lower levels of concentration during studies, they contain only education. While, technology mainly focuses on entertainment, through which it can keep students interested in the learning process at least, there is a small chance of them learning something new as they mainly do not acquire anything but have fun. This is, of course, not to say that we should abandon technology in the classroom as it can be more efficient than books. When students are taught through play and teachers are able to supervise students during the process, higher academic performance can be achieved at ease. As, there are variety of ways to engage students in education, using different games and methods which could be interactive. For instance, the use of pptx presentations or animations in the classroom would foster a competitive learning environment among students, leading them to higher results. To conclude, I cannot deny the benefits of technology as they can be easily accessible and, serve as an efficient tool in improving the education process. Nevertheless, I consider that, due to its cost and possibility of distracting students, technologies can be regarded as something that should be avoided in classrooms. Our primary goal should be attaining greater results in education which can be achieved through mixing these two methods of learning, as they can complement each others’ flaws.
