Part II - Schrödinger's Response Anyway, Einstein and Schrödinger considered this impossible. Einstein's opposition was simple, "How the hell does something know when it's measured that it goes from 2 states to one when it's under measurement?" And Schrödinger felt that his equation was misunderstood. His equation explained the superposition of the hydrogen atom as either pointing up or down. There's a 50% chance for both occurrences but they can't be true at the same time. But now his equation is being used to prove that possible. So, he published a paper in 1935 to point out the impossibility of superposition and to further clarify his equation. He set out to disprove Bohr and the people who agreed with him. He made a thought experiment where a cat is left in a box with uranium for an hour. Uranium particles follow the principles of Quantum Physics according to Schrödinger's original equation. That means they have a 50% chance of emitting radiation OR 50% chance of not emitting any radiation. So if the particles form a radiation, a cyanide vial inside the box will break and kill the cat. If the particles don't emit radiation, the cat lives. Schrödinger used this to highlight that the cat is either dead or alive depending on its physical environment without us seeing it. It can not be both dead and alive. So Superposition is an invalid principle of Quantum Physics. Sadly, Schrödinger's cat isn't a supernatural pet that is both alive and dead. That's just a misconception that bled through generations. Eventually, physicists have proven the possibility of superposition on the micro level with real life experiments by using the concept of Quantum Entanglement, which is ironically Schrödinger's term. Classical Physics fails to explain this phenomenon, and that's why it's categorized under Quantum Physics. There is also another misconception that Quantum only focuses on small stuff like atoms, while Classical only focuses on big entities like insects or planets. That's not true. For example, a car in motion can be explained with both Classical and Quantum, but we choose to represent it with Classical because the calculation is easier and the rules are more consistent. Take it like this, Classical physics studies the waves of particles, while quantum studies particles that are also waves. And it's much easier to study a single atom's Quantum properties than a big matter's multiple atoms. So while we can apply Quantum to the macro level as well, we reserve it for the micro level. For now. After this equation was established, other physicists – such as Niels Bohr (that guy who made the atomic model) – interpreted it to mean that until something is measured, it can have 2 properties at the same time. They called it a Superposition. And if you're one of the rarest students who loved Chemo, you may be familiar with it if you remember learning that an electron's position on its orbit is assumed to be anywhere on the line. Basically, an atom points both up and down before it is measured. PART 2 #Schrödinger | #science | #history

Why do quantum effects only happen on the atomic scale?

Quantum effects are not only confined to the atomic scale. There are several examples of macroscopic quantum behavior. Quantum physics describes ma...

Part I - Classical and Quantum You know Schrödinger's Cat, right? It's as famous as 'E=MC²' in the science community. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a thought experiment by Erwin Schrödinger that showcases you can't know the state of something without measuring it. It's a Quantum thing, which is hard to understand but we'll try to unpack it in this post. Anyway, in this thought experiment, before you open the box that Schrödinger's cat is in, the cat can be assumed to both be dead and alive because you haven't seen (measured) it to know for sure. Well, at least, that's what everyone thinks it is. But that isn't the case at all. Schrödinger's cat isn't a support but a challenge to Quantum. It's kind of a long story, so I'll try to keep it short and bold. In 1926, Schrödinger formulated a wave equation that became the building block of Quantum Physics. The equation was as essential to Quantum as much as Newton's gravitational law was to Classical Physics. As far as I can understand, the wave equation was a theoretical function that showcased that the state of a hydrogen atom changes according to the occurrence of physical events at any point in time. That means, for example, an atom can either have an "up" orientation or a "down" orientation. And depending on when you'll measure it, it will point in different directions. Schrödinger’s cat

Schrödinger’s cat, thought experiment designed by theoretical physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935 as an objection to the reigning Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. Often considered as central to quantum physics as Isaac Newton’s laws of motion are to classical physics, the Schrödinger

Hmm, something that I'm noticing while doing this is that since hashtags can now be searched, it's smart to make your hashtags specific. Like if you're adding a hashtag to a quote, add the name of the person you quoted. If you're hashtagging a movie related post, hashtag the movie name. It makes the posts much more accessible #channel | #observation

Just started adding hashtags on posts. I think there are about 2800 posts here, so it'll take a while but worth it. It's also about to be a year since Such is Life was created. There will definitely be some kind of celebration for that 🙂 #channel | #updates
