| 8 | Understanding outbox, saga, cache-aside, idempotency, and CQRS patterns
Five backend system design patterns are explained through one running e-commerce order example: the Outbox pattern for reliably publishing events alongside database writes, the Saga pattern for coordinating multi-service transactions with compensating actions, Cache-Aside for keeping catalog reads fast without serving stale data, Idempotency keys for safely handling retried requests (including a race-condition fix using Redis SET NX), and CQRS for splitting write and read models when their shapes diverge. The piece closes by showing how all five combine in a real checkout flow and why each exists to answer what happens when a specific component fails mid-operation.

application is open. this summer we're locking in with a small group of builders and it's about to be different.
you'll be shipping next to real content creators, people who've actually built things, real experience in the room. not randoms.
build something in 6 weeks. get a real stranger to pay you within 90 days. $1 counts. $1000 counts. prove someone out there wants what you made.
we're not watching from the side. same clock, same pressure,
we're building with you.
only 6 spots open to the public. six. if you're in, that means something.
send a real video of yourself and something you've actually shipped before.
