big sadge pages 😔 These pages were a doozy, i kept tweaking/scrapping the dialogue and basically redid this flashback like four times cuz I'm so uneasy about the tone of it all. Definitely, like, not a good tonal whiplash all in all, but I wanted to get that in there sooner or later lol A big thing I'm trying to work out in the butler comic is whether or not, like, having more character development/background info makes the porn hotter or not. In some ways I think yes, but the Reunion Party sequel I'm working on next very much says no 🤣 If you've stuck with my messy shoujo bullshit for 72 pages i thank you whether you like this development or not— I'm glad to have given it a shot either way

Additionally, I continue to be a big fan of Substance Designer for textural stuff— I've been using that one since the pool party comic, I could probably go a bit further with painting the textures in to really blend them stylistically with the drawn elements (the realistic marble is a bit much) but this is what I mean by 'visual info'— doing some really simple grid-tile-pattern would probably still get across the "bathroom wall" aesthetic, but the marble just feels more... richy mc rich-pants, yknow??

Still trying to commit to backgrounds for all of these. I guess I'm happy with the amount of visual-info communicated, though it's not lost on me that these are all wildly barebones little rooms for a supposedly wealthy mansion lol Still! The toolkit grows. Setting up a full background render can be kind of a pain in the neck to get the angle right, so for this one I tried using Clip Studio's import-3D option which I'd highly recommend! It's a bit jank but when you've got some shit like an office chair that's just a pain in the neck to properly position in perspective, it's a godsend— just drop a (preferably) simple FBX in and click and drag the controls to rotate it/scale it/pan it into place.

The nice feeling with stuff like this where you're coming back to an OC years later, is you can really feel like you're breathing more life into them than ever before. It's always a struggle when I look at a set of OCs over several pages and feel like they were stronger early on, but here after 2 years away and the need to have something other than just the butlers, I feel real confident I'm gonna do the gang justice. 😤
