Critically endangered 'Namdapha Flying Squirrel' sighted at Arunachal Pradesh ## The Namdapha flying squirrel (Biswamoyopterus biswasi) was last described in 1981 based on a single individual found in the 1,985 sq. km. Namdapha Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district. ## The moment Sourav Gupta, a field researcher, saw the glowing eyes of Namdapha Flying Squirrel in Arunachal Pradesh, he was sure that this was the moment of reckoning. ## The DNA results are awaited to declare the critical findings of Namdapha Flying Squirrel. It is being compared with the Red Giant Flying Squirrel, a similar species, to clear doubts. ## The Namdapha Flying Squirrel, is one of 43 known flying squirrel species in the world. The Namdapha Flying Squirrel is the flying squirrel species with the highest extinction risk - Critically Endangered -according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Good Governance Day celebrated on 25th December ## Good Governance Day, or Sushasan Diwas, is observed on December 25 every year to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. ## The day is celebrated to create awareness about government accountability and administration among the people. ## This year marks the 99th birth anniversary of the former PM.

CISF to take over Parliament security from Delhi Police after breach ## Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will collaborate with Parliament Security Services to regulate access to both the old and new parliament complex. Currently, visitor frisking is managed by Delhi Police personnel. ## On December 13, two individuals with smoke cans jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber to stage a protest against rising unemployment, inflation and poverty. They were accompanied by two others who remained outside and yelled slogans like "tanshahi nahi chalegi" and "bharat mata ki jai" ## The CISF is India's central armed police force functioning under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was created in 1969 to provide security cover to the Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs), which, in those times, occupied the commanding heights of the Indian economy. Its mandate is extended beyond PSEs to include critical infrastructure and private firms in the country.

Rambagh Gate and Ramparts won top award from UNESCO ## Twelve projects from China, India, and Nepal were acknowledged by the awards jury in this year's UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. ## Rambagh Gate and Ramparts in Punjab, India, has been garnered the highest honour, 'Award of Excellence," by UNESCO. ## Karnikara Mandapam at Kunnamangalam Bhagawati Temple in Kerala garnered with 'Award of Distinction'. ## 'Award of Merit' was handed to Church of Epiphany in Haryana; David Sassoon Library and Reading Room in Mumbai; and Bikaner House, in New Delhi. ## The Karnikara Mandapam at Kunnamangalam Bhagawati Temple in Kerala and Pipal Haveli in Punjab were awarded with the 'Special Recognition for Sustainable Development.'

National Farmer's Day celebrated on 23rd December ## National Farmer's Day or Kisan Diwas is celebrated annually on 23rd December to honour former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh's birth anniversary. He was born on 23 December 1903 in a rural peasant family of village Noorpur, United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. He served as the 5th prime minister of India between 28 July 1979 and 14 January 1980. He worked for the upliftment of the farmer community in the country by introducing various policies in favour of the farmers. He elevated the Indian agriculture scenario and contributed immensely to the cause of farmers. ## The theme for Kisan Diwas 2023 is 'Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience'.
