Foucault Pendulum Today students and I experimented with the pendulum. 😵💫 It's downright mesmerizing as it draws beautiful Lissajous patterns in the sand. This science table favorite can be used at higher levels to study harmonic motion (when energy is transferred from a pendulum swinging in one plane to swinging in another plane at right angles) The Lissajous figure is derived from two landmark curves intersecting at right angles. As the sand slowly dissipates the energy of the hand, the drawn figures become smaller.
