Prominent Albanian patrilineages (R-Z2103, J-L283, R-PF7562) were found among populations of Indo-European origin in the western steppe in 3500-3000 BCE in major new study. Such populations represent the speakers of the Albanian IE "dialect" in the pre-Balkan period.

A male of predominantly IE (Yamnaya) buried Chalcolithic 🇲🇩, carried haplogroup J-L283, which forms 14-18% of modern Albanian Y-DNA and around 7% of Croatian Y-DNA in Dalmatia, and was a major Illyrian patrilineage. This sample is direct confirmation that J-L283, R-Z2103 & R-PF7562 spread IE languages in the west Balkans.
